I kept thinking to myself today; "Why does nobody make great comedy anymore? Why don't people make comedy anymore?" I mean, look at it; the best thing that's been released in the past three years of comedy is, arguably, Tropic Thunder. But hell, if we're to be honest about it films such as Disaster Movie, or Meet The Spartans, have managed to get as much attention, if not more, and have left more of a mark on our perceptions of modern comedy. I'm sure most of you could name more bad comedy films than you could good ones.

Are these the faces that our children will associate with comedy in our generation?

It's a fair question. After all, how many ... Movies have there been?

(Apparently coming in 2011)

Do you see what I mean?! There's a tonne of them! And they just keep coming! For every semi-decent comedy

... there's another one of these 'spoofs' coming out.

As Barack Obama comes into power promising a new era of change and wealth, will we ever see a change in comedy? Will there ever be our Airplane!, or Search for the Holy Grail? Or are our generation's films doomed to be looked upon as a comedic void, where comedy is not only poor and mishandled, but also lazy and shallow. Our comedy, even the best of it, has no real lasting chance when it's overrun by farcical attempts at the dreaded 'spoof', such as those listed above.

What hope is there for the next ten years? There's war, famine, recession, depression, fear, hate, ignorance and our comedy sucks balls. Big ones too. But, if you're finding this article bringing you down, there is always one thing that should cheer you up...

At least they can't take down Monty Python. And as long as there's these films around, inspiring us, making us smile, maybe there's hope that something will come, something huge. Something hilarious. We can only hope.

Talk to ya later.

Watch Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's movies. Really more spoofs of genres in general than parodies of specific movies, but they're hilarious in that genre.

There will always be sh*tty movies, be they dramas or comedies. There will also, thankfully, always be GOOD movies, be they dramas or comedies. There MAY be more of the former, but that's just cause it's they are easier to make.

As long as we still have Edgar Wright and Judd Apatow we're good.

Comedy is going through a mid-life (or end of life if you believe in 2012 end of the world deal) crisis. Wait it out, some gems pop through. Btw, Meet the Parents had it's moments. But spoof movies by and large, yeah I agree, are terrible.

I think that comedy has taken a step back, but there is still hope, especially in TV. One of my favorite comedy shows, The Venture Bros., is hilarious and sharply written. The Colbert Report and the Daily Show both deliver laugh out loud episodes constantly. There is great stuff out there, you just have to look for it.

On the contrary, Comedy is jus starting to get back on its feet with the Help of Judd Apatow and crew. He's reinvented comedy. Can't wait for Funny People!

Those aren't comedies. Those are Abominations to Cinema.

I admit it, I love the firstthree Scary Movie films. They cracked me up, they really took the spoof thing to whole new level. But now everything is just spoofs, and it's not funny at all. Tropic Thunder was a great satirical comedy, and those don't come often. Comedy isn't dead because it still shines every decade or so. Comedy is dieing. Nice blog post, I practically agree with almost everything you said.
