Around the Spillverse, we've talked a lot about last year's 'V/H/S.' It was a horror film that combined two separate subgenres, anthology and found footage, into something quite unique. It also featured a collaboration of some of the best up-and-coming talent in horror. The upcoming sequel, 'S-VHS' looks to be an augmentation of what we got the first time around. Bringing together the likes of Jason Eisner ('Hobo with a Shotgun'), Gareth Evans ('The Raid: Redemption'), and Eduardo Sanchez ('The Blair Witch Project'), 'S-VHS' has just seen the release of its first trailer. It's incredibly intense and hints at everything from zombies to alien abduction. I can't freaking wait to see this. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.

'S-VHS' premieres this week at Sundance with a wide release soon to follow

if they keep making these  they should have a smaller spin off called HD-DVD

I really loved the idea behind VHS but I felt they screwed up a few things by having such unlikable and similar characters throughout the first half. But this looks like it fixes that problem and I am now all in on this sequel.

As soon as I saw this was coming out, I was waiting for Brian to squee about it. And with the lineup they have this time, I can't blame him. :D

I am going to double post here.

I think to most people Clover Field is like the top Found Footage Film. To me it fell short with the design of the monster and the ending. I feel build up of the film was entirely too much for the shitting ending.

To me the TOP but I mean the TIPPY TOP found footage film has got to be TROLL HUNTER! with Chronicle in a close second.

Really? A sequel to that crap fest.

I have all the names of the series. Beta Max, Laser Disc, VCD, DVD, Blu-Ray.

I for one am interested. It looks like the film makers decided to add, oh I don't know, VARIETY to the anthology and not the guys-try-to-get-layed-and-die-horridly motif of the first one. Lets hope it works.

People bitch about practically every aspect of horror films these days; "jump cuts" are cliche, the found footage style is cliche, creepy things in the background of a scene is cliche, etc., but it doesn't necessarily make for a bad movie when the "cliche" is used in the right context.  Do we stop making damsel-in-distress movies just because it's a theme that's been around for decades in film?  The success of movies like "Taken" suggest otherwise.

I'm curious, though:  what horror film that doesn't rely on a cliche or two do you regard as outstanding?
