In Infamous 2 Cole MacGrath, the protagonist from the first game, heads to the city of New Marais. New Marais, which is based on New Orleans, was where the Ray Sphere from the first game was created, which is what originally gave Cole his powers. When Cole arrives to the city he encounters the Militia, an organization led by a man named Bertrand, and the Corrupted, mutated beings affected by the Ray Sphere. The Militia has taken over New Marais in an attempt to keep all super powered or abnormal individuals away. The Corrupted on the other hand are just set on destroying everything in their path. Cole must also find a scientist who is believed to hold the key to defeating The Beast. But will he do it in time before the Beast arrives?
Gameplay:
In Infamous 2 you to work your way through the main missions fighting the Corrupt and the Militia, this is one of the ways you unlock powers. In the first game, when the player completed side missions it would clear areas of the city of enemies but those missions often got repeated too often. This time around there is a lot more variety with the side missions. There were some similar side missions but none were flat out repeated. You don't have to do the side missions if you don't want to but they do make you're life easier when your going through the city. Also completing them can also help to unlock some of your powers.
Also this time around the melee combat has been improved significantly from the first game. You get a weapon called The Amp which just helps whenever you get into close combat with an enemy. You can just clear out almost any enemy that gets in your way with that weapon. The downside being that the camera will sometimes cost pretty much screw you sometimes.
There will be sometimes when the amp isn't enough though and when that happens you have a variety of powers to choose from. Cole still has his lighting powers from the first game but this time around he has the ability to use either fire or ice powers depending what actions he takes during the game. But, this might or might not be a negative for you, I felt that there were actually too many powers. I very rarely switched what powers I used during the game just because I felt what I was given towards the beginning of the game was good enough. Also depending on your actions your lighting can turn either blue or red and your clothes also change depending on your karma.
Controls:
The controls in the first game was pretty good but they had the occasional problem. In Infamous 2 I feel that the controls have been improved significantly. While gliding on rails I have no problem shooting enemies as I glide by them. Everything feels a little more accurate then the last game. I did have trouble a few times with the camera, like I stated before, during melee fights. It did cause me to die a few times but not to the point of frustration. Overall though the controls are definitely better then the first game.
Graphics:
The graphics are also an improvement from the first game. They aren't the best you will ever see but the graphics for the game are still good. To be honest though LA Noire has pretty much ruined every other games graphics for me. Also I didn't have any problems with glitches while playing. The city if pretty big bigger then Empire City from the first game. This city is split up into two Islands and a lot of the little neon signs you see in the city if pretty detailed. Some parts of the city were better looking then others but I barely noticed it.
Overall Infamous 2 is a great game and a great sequel. If you enjoyed the first game you will most definitely enjoy this game. Even if you haven't played the first game, this does a pretty good job at explaining the events of that game. I would recommend this game to people who loved the first game or anyone who is looking for a game where they get to play a super hero.....or villain. Oh and you get the Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Beta when you buy it.

Comment by It's Just Ryan on June 12, 2011 at 9:04am After the credits roll it does let you free roam. You can complete any side missions you haven't completed, turn Good to Evil or vice versa without any effect on your save, and yes collect blast shards. You can also do any User Created missons from other players around the world.
