If it's crap ... We'll tell you
'Thor: The Dark World' has just begun shooting in England, and already the little information leaking from the set is generating mythic buzz. The Marvel sequel will be directed by Alan Taylor ('Game of Thrones') and nearly all of the principle players from the first film are returning. In addition, Christopher Eccleston, Alice Krige, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje have been added to the roster. The plot will revolve heavily around the dark elves of Svartalfheim and feature plenty of underground sets. But what else can we expect from 'Thor: The Dark World?' In a recent interview, Idris Elba (who played Heimdall in the first film and will reprise the role for the sequel) gave us a few hints as to what we will see. Here's what he said...
"In the new film we're going to get to know Heimdall the Asgardian a bit better, and we're going to get to know Asgard a bit better, I can't say too much, but the expansion of Thor in his world is going to be huge."
Idris Elba is an incredible actor, arguably one of the best working today, and the thought of seeing more of his talents in the next film is a favorable prospect. Moreover, I'm just happy we're going to get more from that character. I would love to see Heimdall involved in combat that doesn't end with his being frozen by Loki after only a few seconds. As to the delving further into the world of Asgard, that too is a welcome bit of information. With all the discussion on Svartalfheim, Asgard seemed to have been relegated to the back burner. The first film was good, but one thing I wished is that the plot point of Thor on Earth had not so precluded the possibility of more Asgard exploration. I'm really excited to see what new structures and features of this rich fantasy world are revealed in the second film.
What do you guys think? Excited for more Heimdall? More Asgard? What Asgardian features from the comics do you hope turn up?
