If it's crap ... We'll tell you
In possibly the biggest news today, Quentin Tarantino has chosen the leading man for his upcoming revenge western 'Django Unchained' - 'Ray' star Jaime Foxx. Dubbed a "Southern" by Tarantino, the film centers around Django - a slave who is freed by a German bounty hunter (played by Christoph Waltz) and trains with him in order to someday free his wife from the clutches of an evil plantation owner named Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) who runs Candyland, a free-for-all club where slaves fight each other to the death and the women are abused as sex objects.
While he may have been overlooked for the role of Django, 'Thor' actor Idris Elba isn't hurting for work. Elba has signed on to Guillermo Del Toro's Mechs-vs-Monsters flick 'Pacific Rim', taking over a role that was originally intended for actor Tom Cruise. Elba joins the growing cast, which includes 'Sons of Anarchy' star Charlie Hunnam and 'It's Always Sunny' actor Charlie Day. The film, which takes place in a post-Kaiju-decimated world where giant creatures begin to emerge from the Pacific Ocean, is expected to be released in 2013. The actor is also currently filming Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus'.
Emma Stone will once again face down hordes of zombies, only this time in a much different setting. No, it's not the much-awaited 'Zombieland' sequel... according to Variety, Stone has been offered the lead role in Lionsgate's adaptation of the literary mash-up 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies'. Directed by Craig Gillespie (the man behind the 'Fright Night' remake), the story is a collage of the classic Jane Austen tale about proud Mr. Darcy falling in love with the lower class Elizabeth (Stone), only now they have legions of zombies to contend with as well as class issues and a burgeoning romance.
Warren Beatty will step behind the camera for the first time since 1998's 'Bulworth' to direct a story based on eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes, Deadline reports. However, it will not be your standard biopic like Scorcese's 'The Aviator' or Christopher Nolan's post-Batman outing based on the book 'Citizen Hughes'. Instead, it will apparently center around an affair Hughes had with a much younger woman during the later years of his life (the creepy long-haired, uncut-fingernails, Baskin Robbins Banana Ripple-devouring years hopefully). Beatty plans to meet with a slew of high profile actors for the film, including Roonie Mara and Jack Nicholson.
Actress and 'American Idol' hostess Jennifer Lopez is known for her many roles as "the girl" in a dozen lousy rom-coms, and her next two pics don't really deviate from that formula much. First, she is set to star in the upcoming 'Parker' film (opposite Jason Statham as the hardened career criminal Parker) as a woman named Leslie who accidentally gets swept up in Parker's latest heist. In addition to that film, she is also currently eyeing a secondary role in the Cameron Diaz film 'What to Expect When You're Expecting'.
Finally, popular British actor Tom Wilkinson is in negotiations with Disney for a role in their upcoming adventure tentpole 'The Lone Ranger'. Currently, it is being reported that he is in talks to play a railroad tycoon who plays a "prominent role" in the film, opposite Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp as his faithful companion Tonto. Written by 'Pirates' duo Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, the film is scheduled to begin principal photography this fall and premiere around Christmas of 2012.
