'G.I. Joe Retaliation' Pushed To 2013

The summer of 2012 was set to be one of the most jam-packed with blockbusters and epic studio undertakings in years. Largely, this is still the case, but one gargantuan sequel on the roster has hit a major, well, Roadblock. Yesterday it was reported that Jon Chu's 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' was pushed from it's fast-approaching June 29th release date all the way back to March 29th, 2013. The reason? They will be post-converting it to 3D. Yup. The studio is trying to capitalize on the 3D craze, especially overseas, and cites Lionsgate's 'The Hunger Games' as evidence that March can be a lucrative month for action films. Oh, but don't worry. Paramount has moved Seth McFarlane's comedy 'Ted' into 'G.I. Joe 2's spot so...that happened.

I don't even know where to begin here. I feel cheated. I very much disliked the first 'G.I. Joe' movie, finding it more exasperating than mindlessly fun, but the marketing for the sequel had me hooked. I was all set to not only give this franchise another shot, but was actually excited to see some of the action set pieces outlined in the trailer. Now I not only get to wait nine more months to see it, but I have to do so specifically because they're post-coverting it to 3D? Yeah, because that worked so well for 'Clash of the Titans.' Sure, I'll be able to see it in 2D when it comes out, but that kind of makes it even more frustrating that I have to wait almost another year for something to be added that I won't even use. Paramount's blatantly greedy decision here aggravates me to no end. Was the movie not slated to make enough money in the summer in 2D? I know it's silly to get up in arms over the 'G.I. Joe' sequel, but it's an example of a larger problem with studio filmmaking right now.

What do you guys think? Are you disappointed you won't get 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' this summer? Will you see it in the post-converted 3D?

I'm not buying it.  The 3D trend didn't just start.  If they wanted to be in on it they would have either filmed it in 3D or started the conversion a long time ago.  Conspiracy!

I would have been ok wih this decision, if they moved it because they thought it would lose out to the summer competition. The post 3D conversion will cost someone their job. As this is a movie, that everyone would expect the studios to put in 3D just for the saje of it. Either way, I'll be watching this in 2D when it comes out. Does anyone know what movies will be comig out in March, that might give this movie competition?

Someone wrote that the past 2 months they've been screening this to some audiences and the reviews weren't good...yet this brings up the question to how is 3D going to make it better?

If they need to redo some shots to give the film some improvement, that's fine, but if it's just because to milk more money of the 3D fad going on, that's gonna piss off a lot of fans. T.T

Is this because Battleship underperformed? And now they're trying to squeeze every red cent out of us with a 3D price tag?

Regardless: BOOOOO!

They moved it because they were afraid they'd get trampled by Spiderman. Which was releasing just a few days after it.

Also, they're reshooting several scenes.

Well... I wanted to see this movie.  (Past tense now - down with damn 3D)

My mom's going to be dissapointed.  She'll be up from Jamaica in a couple of weeks.  She was really, really looking forward to this.  (She likes mindless fun action movies.)

YOU'RE DISAPPOINTING MY MOTHER!  YOU MUST DIE!  NOBODY DISAPPOINTS MY MAMA, 'CEPT MY DADDY!
