Freaky Fake News Footage Serves As 'Pacific Rim' Viral Marketing

Within the last few days, the floodgates appear to have opened and a tidal wave of viral marketing has begun to wash over the internet in anticipation of the release of Guillermo del Toro's 'Pacific Rim.' Just yesterday we brought you fake memos and fake emergency broadcast systems. Today, however, Warner Brothers has taken it a step further. This fake news footage details an attack by a kaiju, the race of alien monsters that brave robot-piloting soldiers will be battling in the film. As much as this gives the movie an inaccurate found footage appearance, I gotta say they hooked me with that last shot. Take a look at the video below and let us know what you think.

'Pacific Rim' hits theaters July 12th, 2013

Could it possibly be that the trailer actually drops and people pull a ">.>" and pretend they never gave a shit about this movie? lol, I'm eyeing this with a dose of skepticism til it comes out.

Sorry, but watching this video reminds me more of District 9 than Cloverfield. 9 > Cloverfield anyways

If the movie has the same shakey handheld shots as this teaser, bugger it -- I don't need the vertigo.

Damn.. I was hoping they'd sneak a mech in there somewhere.

This looks exactly like Cloverfield.

And I fucking love Cloverfield, so that isn't necessarily a criticism.

I know everyone's already made this comparison, but all this did was make want to go re watch Cloverfield
