Fantastic Four Reboot Zeroing In On Director

20th Century Fox is looking for someone to manage their superhero team The Fantastic Four for a much-needed cinematic reboot. Word has it that the current frrontrunner is newbie Josh Trank, director of the upcoming found footage superhero/villain film 'Chronicle,' which will mark his feature film debut. 'Chronicle' tells the story of three high school friends suddenly endowed with superpowers who document their testing of said powers in ways that propel them further and further down a dark path. The film was written by Max Landis, son of legendary director John Landis ('An American Werewolf in London'). Trank has apparently taken a number of meetings with Fox about the new Fantastic Four film, but the studio seems to be holding off on an official deal until they see how 'Chronicle' performs at the box office. However they are the ones who purchased the film for distribution so it's reasonable to assume they have confidence in 'Chronicle' and that Trank will land this fantastic new gig.

I'm really not kidding about how badly this property needs a reboot. That's not to say there weren't elements of the two existing films that I enjoyed, those elements were just very few and miles in between. What's going to be just as important as booking the right director for this reboot, as we learned the hard way in both 'Fantastic Four' and 'Rise of the Silver Surfer,' will be booking the right writer; no more Galactus fart clouds. But now the question becomes, what sort of director will Trank prove to be on this new project should he book the gig? Will he be fiery and opinionated? Is he willing to stretch and bend his vision to the studio's liking? Is he someone willing to have so little influence on the film that he's practically invisible? Rest assured, if 'Chronicle' performs well at the box office, he could end up being huge with a lot of weight to throw around.

'Chronicle' opens February 3rd

I think I'll just stick with the Incredibles.

When Marvel filed for bankruptcy, say 1997-8 ish they sold the rights to Spider-man, Mutant kingdom of X-titles, Daredevil, Ghost Rider and FF in order to re-organize/re-structure the company and make their own studio.

Blame Marvel for how they worked out the legislation of the deal. But can you blame them? They had no leverage, comics were in serious trouble all around.

So I don't blame them...that's LIFE.

Fox is pretty much BETTING that most of you, only care about the highlights of the source material, catchy dialogue, dysfunctional bromance/romance, and a "to be continued" ending. And they're RIGHT.

You can hit the reset button a million times and people will turn out because a comic book movie isn't as much a commitment as the $3.99 title itself.

As for this director, let's see how Chronicles plays out first. I mean, last year around this time EVERY ONE was jones-ing for Super 8, another viral campaign that NO ONE is talking about anymore.

So let's wait and see.

Chronicle looks pretty awesome.

I don't like super hero movies. But there are many exceptions. This is not one of them. These movies are lazy and pointless.

Fantastic Four has always been more suitable in Animation than Live-Action.  It’s going to be tough making something good out of Fantastic Four.

No matter who they have to write, direct, star... I still don't see think any FF4 movie ever be good. The characters themselves are too cartoonish to ever really come across right on screen. I'm not talking about powers, etc. I'm talking about the family dynamic. The only way to do a movie like this is to animate it, but then we have already have that movie... it's called the Incredibles.

I mean, it's not like they can do any worse than the unspeakable horseshit we got with the first two movies. When you really break that first one down, it's honestly one of the single worst written movies I ever EVER had the misfortune to witness. The Room makes more sense than that first trainwre...no, calling it a trainwreck would be giving it too much credit. It's Plan 9 From Outer Space with a budget and without the charm. Even Batman & Robin are like "Goddamn this is stupid." FUCK THAT MOVIE.

Making a WATCHABLE Fantastic Four movie would be a huge improvement in comparison to the fuckery we got before.

MARVEL if you are listening please take back the film rights and make a good FF movie

The trailer for 'Chronicle' made me upset just because it looked like one of those movies that will use the fact that it's found footage when it's convenient for the story, kind of like 'Apollo 18.'
