If it's crap ... We'll tell you
If I may, could I just take a moment to thank Peter Jackson? First, because he's taken accessibility to a whole new level with his Facebook page that he actually updates consistantly with cool news about the ongoing production. Secondly, because he just hired 'Lost' hottie Evangeline Lilly to play an elf in the upcoming 'Hobbit' films.
In a statement on his official Facebook account, Jackson said:
Now, hardcore fans might balk at his misspelling of Silvan, but seriously - did you like 'The Lord of the Rings'? You did? Good, then shut the f**k up and let the man spell it however he wants. The Silvan Elves, also called the Wood-Elves, come from the northern areas of Middle Earth like Lothlórien and Mirkwood (Lothlórien being where Galadriel rules, Mirkwood being the area from which The Necromancer must be dispelled from). While the character of Tauriel is brand new, she is rumored to be the love interest of Thranduil (played by Lee Pace). If true, it's also possible that she could be the mother of Legolas (son of Thranduil), as his mother was never defined in the books.
In addition to Lily's character, Jackson also announced that Australian actor Barry Humphries will be joining the cast as the Goblin King, in much the same way that Andy Serkis crafted his performance as Gollum through voice work and motion-capture. Humphries is probably best known for his cross-dressing, shrill-voiced character Dame Edna Everage or as the voice of Bruce the Shark in Pixar's 'Finding Nemo'.
