If it's crap ... We'll tell you
English Motherfucker posted a statusAs you have gathered, I'm rather particularly British. So as you can guess, Superbowl isn't much of a big deal over here, if any one actually cares about it over here, they have to stay up until 3 o'clock in the morning and watch it a day late. But, in all honesty, they do give for some cool ass TV Spots. So I've decided to hunt down the very best and the very worst and post them in this very blog, and give you my verdict.
The Worst
Just Go With It
Ok, this does everything pretty much wrong. First off, this is way advertising itself as the wrong thing. It comes across as a sex comedy in the advert (yes movie, you got boobies, good for you). Like seriously, tell your girlfriend it's a Romantic Comedy, seriously, IT IS A ROMANTIC COMEDY YOU IDIOTS!!! I would mind but you can't advertise your film like it is and then tack on to the end that it's a PG-13, that's like chochlate covered carrots, it just doesn't go! Secondly, Adam Sandler getting hit in the nuts, seriously. And considering that his last movie was Grown Ups, isn't it becoming apparant that he's basically just making movies now just so he can go on holiday. And Lastly, "The Wait Is Finally Over!", am I missing some sort of huge hype machine for this film, I didn't reilise the world was so excited for an Adam Sandler/Jennifer Aniston team up. God, just give this movie a miss for the love of god (though I know it won't, and Adam Sandler will have his next holiday fundings easily)
Kung Fu Panda 2: The Kaboom of Doom
"We will wok you" either a dumb ass pun on rock, or a piss take out of asian accsents, either way people should be offended. Now, I loved Kung Fu Panda, so I really want this film to work, but at the moment, it offers A) Nothing new, B) Nothing fun. It just looks dumb like a lot of Dreamworks work. Not quite as bad as Just Go With It, but it failed in hyping me up.
The Eagle
I'm sorry, but this film just looks so boring. I know the talent behind the camera, but it just looks like a dull Roman small scale epic.
Rio
Mr Narrator man, can please tell us where the comedy actually began, because I don't see it in this Spot!
The Good
Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides
Ok, so it looks like a spin-off rather than an actual sequel. Doesn't mean it won't be very fun. When I saw the trailer back in front of Tron: Legacy, the film reminded me of a cheesy 80's adventure 3D film, and this spot cementes that theory. Should be a very fun summer film.
Captain America: The First Avenger
Probably the biggest and most hyped up spot that came up, people were rather anixous to see the first footage of Chris Evans as the World War 2 superhero. Personally, I would of rather liked to have seen a little more WW2 superhero action in the spot because thats what I'm really excited about in the film (come on, you should of sneaked in a shot of Captain America twatting Hitler one in the face). But I know that isn't really going to sell the film to a wider audience. I think it's biggest problem is that it felt like it was trying to cram a whole trailer into 30 seconds, but it did show some cool stuff, like the unvailing of Hugo Weavings Red Skull character and I like the overall style the spot shows. Also, I'm not going to add the Thor spot onto here, because while it wasn't bad, it offered nothing new.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Yeah, yeah, yeah, this is on here. Admit it, for a 30 Second spot, it did cram enough cool stuff in there to make you go, "well, maybe it's an improvment over Transformers 2" even though it's praticily the same as that films Superbowl teaser. But who cares, it's just a load of Slow-mo 'splosions, loud noises and bright fast moving object across the screen, and if anything, if the film still sucks, the money shots are still damn cool.
Cowboys and Aliens
Well, I was already hyped as hell for this one (it's Cowboys...AND Aliens, how could it not work) so this really added very little to my hype for the film, but it's still a cool spot with some new material. Aparantly Jon Favreau wanted this spot to make sure audiences understand that it is a serious western film with sci-fi elements, and I feel it gets it's message across. It's also announced that all the footage being shown is from the first half of the film, so if the first half is this good and crazy...how on earth will the second half top it?!?!
And the best spot goes to
Super 8
I've at least watched this spot a thousand times since it hit the internet, it's just so. god. damn. good. I love every shot from the trailer, from the typical late 70's small town, to the shots of the army burning the grass, the person being dragged off in the shop and the bus being blown away. Every single shot in the entire advert adds either intruge or adds a new element to the film. It starts of Coming-of-age, to Sci-Fi, to Monster, to Horror. I'm predicting a lot of Better Than Sexs for this film when it's released June 10th. It's the only spot that made my anticipation shoot up for a film so fast.
That's my list, post undernieth your opinions on my list, whether I'm right or wrong. If you think I missed some out.
