If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Even with the abundance of superhero movies Marvel is putting out, there have been more than a few characters who seem to have been overlooked. While whispers and rumors of movie versions of, say, Black Panther and Dr. Strange have surfaced, we're still waiting to see if these films will actually go into production. Marvel patriarch, and elder statesman of comic books, Stan Leeconfirmed in a recent interview that we will indeed be getting a Black Panther and a Dr. Strange movie. Here's what he said...
"Oh they are all being made into movies! I can tell you there will definitely be a Dr. Strange movie! They are working on Antman, which requires really small cameras! Black Panther is being developed, one of my favorites…the Inhumans…All the hero’s will eventually be made into movies."
On the one hand, this is stellar news. Black Panther and Dr. Strange are both interesting characters whose stories would make for fascinating movies. Not only that, but Dr. Strange especially would afford some visually creative director the opportunity to craft something unique and aesthetically divergent from a vast majority of the superhero cinema out there. I'd like to see what somebody like Guillermo del Toro or even Tarsem Singh could do with Dr. Strange. We'd heard murmurings that Black Panther may turn up either in or just before 'Avengers 2,' and I believe a script is already in place. The question of who the lead would be in that film is an intriguing one. Michael Jai White? A little redemption for 'Spawn'perhaps? The downside of this news bit is that Stan Lee goes on in the same interview to mention how little he's actually involved in these films, and that he doesn't even see the scripts. He also makes the very dubious assertion that all Marvel's heroes will eventually have movies. I love the guy, but with him being so out of the loop, do these confirmations really mean anything?
What do you guys think? Willing to take Lee at his word and start getting excited about Dr. Strange and Black Panther? Who would you choose to direct and/or star in those projects?
