@C: When you love someone you choose to stick with that person at the expense of all others, even when it’s hard and you don’t want to!
When you lust after someone, you get angry and throw in the towel as soon as you don’t get what you want, or you manipulate them until they do what you want them to do. I can't wait to rent this movie on DVD.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt = romantic comedy for men
Great group review too guys, I want to see this one. And I understand personally why a guy would still watch porn despite being in a relationship. For me, when I was with my most recent girlfriend (of three years till June) there were things my partner wouldn't be into that I would want to do (and had done before with others). And if she wasn't up for it there was always porn to satisfy that urge. I admit I probably look at porn in one way or another routinely, but I also have a healthy sex life right now, doesn't make me insensitive to women though. The particular chick I'm seeing which is strictly on a casual basis I'm not treating like shit, and I work with half a dozen other women, all of whom I respect and get along with well. I wouldn't say I'm an addict either. I think as Leon said if you're jacking in 10 times a day you have a problem. Once a day coupled with a healthy sex life, I don't think makes you an addict.
@Hector:'My problem is that people who watch porn everyday become insensitive towards woman.'Have any facts to back that dramatic assertion up?
this got 82% on Rotten Tomatoes 'Don Jon proves to be an amiable directing debut for Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and a vivacious for his co-star, Scarlett Johansson.'
4 out of 5 for me:
so enjoyablethis is a very good 1st job by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the guy has a knack for both acting and directingand I find it hilarious that his first subject was porn addictiontrue it's out there and many, many people log online and enjoy watching it to an extentthere is such a thing as too much which leads to addiction, it's hard to let goDon then meets Johansson and falls for her while still having the time continuing to look at pornit's crazy because you want him to stop for a change; it's dominating your life socially and romanticallythe movie had great actors mainly Johansson next to Gordon-Levitt which blew me away, they're so good playing an at-first glance couple that can really work outthe quality of the movie on a technical scale impressed me, too, at times I couldn't even tell it was being shot on camerawhen Julianne Moore was in the movie, however, as Don's student buddy she needed to be fleshed out better, she didn't have as big of a presence as the two leadsplus I love how Gordon-Levitt had an opportunity not only to poke fun at the fact that sex sells but also the image of Hollywood; the way we react to watching certain things says a lot about us, romantic comedy clichés, action movies and even porn can be just as fakeI was laughing along with watching the romance bloom and then rot awayaside from one scene lasting 5 min too long I liked everything else that Gordon-Levitt handled
I am let down though personally by small things:
like come on, since Scarlett's 1st nude scene in 'Lost in Translation' they couldn't have shot her full-frontal nude??? well at least those pictures of her are online for public domain
plus I would have chosen someone else for Julianne Moore's character, it kind of made me uncomfortable towards the end of the film
I'm a little scared too, for former porn addicts this may not be the film for them to watch cause it could throw them right back in, I mean come on, I'm a guy and even I look at porn and they mentioned 2 real porn sites!
Scarlett though, hmmmm..........
Don Jon review: Joseph Gordon Levitt, one of te rising stars of the industry, takes on a new approach with his first film he directed and co-written. JGL is taking a Woody Allen approach to this 2013 sex-comedy-drama starring him, Scarlett Johnanson and Julianne Moore.
Guido Jon Martello aka Don Jon is a womanizing, Church going average Italian bartender living in good ol' Jersey. All seems well, he has a good family who are hilarious and realistic (consisting off Glenne Headley and Tony Danza and the sister played by Brie Larson, the texting Maggie Simpson sage of the group), goes out and has one-night stands with gorgeous women, problem is Jon is one hell of a Porn addict. He does enjoy having ya now....but prefers porn to actual love-making. Till he meets a "10" (Scarlet Johansson) a vixen who Jon falls for (mostly because she looks like a girl straight outta a snuff film. lol) That's all I'll tell you, and Julianne more has a supporting role as an older woman Jon befriends at Community College.
JGL's Jon is a multi-layed character full of shock and awe.....being kinda a ass. He does start off as one thing and evolves to another. That's good, and it pays off here, in a convincing way by the acting. BTW The porn here is not censored and theirs alotta T & A in this, and the comedy i'm surprised to find out is a mix of good timed sex jokes and genuine humor with the Don Jon character. Robin and Black Widow have good chemistry and so does Moore. I will say the last 20 minutes do shift more into a drama, but I feel it works and i'm surprised that JGL actually made this at points. It's shot competently with the music, humor, editing and I enjoyed most of the film and damn well laughed my ass off.
Other actors include Rob Brown, and cameos of Anne Hathaway, Channing Tatum, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Cuba Gooding, Jr., and Meagan Good as actors. I'll give Don Jon a FULL PRICE. JGL keep on rising man, and not in the way he's rising...here. Ya know.
The black guys is Rob Brown from Finding Forrester.
I really wanted to see this movie from the first trailer. Glad you all liked it.
