Comment by Monsieur Rebellion on June 11, 2013 at 3:16pm I gotta say, they really focused on cuts that didn't need to be aided, the film being 3 hours long shouldn't piss off a film critic, they have made intelligent points in the past, but I have to say, that the film developed, it didn't go along.
*I did agree with their comments on the usage of n*gger
I easily forgave the movie for its overuse of the N word once I began to see these incredible actors at work. I was overjoyed to see Christoph take home the oscar for his outstanding performance as Dr.King Shultz. Despite its gratuitous use of the N word I would say the script was still fantastic, but than again I never have been dissapointed with Tarantino's writing. The story moved at an enjoyable pace despite the fact that it was almost three hours long. I also have express my love for the cinnematography, which at many points in the film is breathtaking. The first act blew my mind and I will admit it slowed down in the middle, but it instantly picked back up again in the third act. I would overall give this movie a high full price, I eagerly await Tarantino's next project.
Comment by Zgamer on April 12, 2013 at 3:10am I was initially disappointed with the film to some extent, but having had time to think of it and rewatched scenes from the movie, I actually disagree with quite a few points. Some of them like Kerry Washington being a plot device and Tarantino's terrible acting are totally valid. However, I think you overlook a lot of the good qualities of the film as a result. It is shot incredibly well, great set and costume design, terrific sound throughout and the effects are pretty top notch for the action scenes. The acting is also terrific across the board (except for Tarantino), with everyone giving a whole ton of bravado and professionalism to their performances. The directing and writing is supposed to be a mishmash of tones and references, since that is how Tarantino has always directed his movies since Reservoir Dogs. So I am not that repelled seeing him do the thing that he is most famous for and still really good at doing.
If anything, the primary problems are still the lack of editing flow and plot structure. There are a lot of great scenes in this film and great moments of writing. The problem is the way they are cut together, sometimes awkwardly sandwiching scenes next to each other that don't mix well. It also had little scenes that could have been trimmed out throughout the story that didn't contribute anything.
As for the way you pin the blame of saying people are giving this a pass for having Tarantino's name, I think that is a rather shallow opinion. People are smarter than that (as much as they try to prove contrary) and I think a lot more critics are being fairer in their assumptions than you give credit for. If you read the full reviews of critics from across the nation, the love is not unanimously fervent even with all of the positive reviews (a lot of them rank in the B or three out of four star grades for their respective systems). Just saying people like this blindly as Tarantino fanboys is a rather pretentious thing to do.
Comment by reginald woodson on April 4, 2013 at 4:49pm i disagree hold heartedly with almost everything you guys said. i think the movie was great. definitely a one time kind of thing but neithertheless a great film. they do go over the top with the usage of the n word and the violence but if you look past that: great dialogue, acting, and witty banter.

Comment by rabetto21 on March 14, 2013 at 2:01pm movie finally came out in the philippines! like @Boikanyo I don't normally disagree with y'all either but I totally enjoyed this fun, over-the-top revenge flick. Haha at least it didn't say "based on a true story" anywhere (as far as I know)
Comment by dream_the_sandman on February 28, 2013 at 12:22pm Hey spill guys, I'm horrified about you being horrified about this movie. I'm sure runaway slaves did get torn apart by dogs, and some bored slave owner probably did have slaves fight each other. So if you can't handle real life, maybe stick to whatever torture porn you like.
Comment by Boikanyo Ketsile on February 8, 2013 at 3:11pm I don't normally disagree with you guys but this movie rocked!
Comment by Austin Bond on February 6, 2013 at 10:53pm Hahaha I bet you guys don't like Huckleberry Finn because of the word "nigger". You know; the greatest American novel ever written.
Anyway, better than sex movie.
