Phil Lord and Chris Miller created something truly fantastic with their 2009 adaptation of the children's book 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.' When it was announced that a sequel was in the works, we wondered how it would be able to capture the magic of the first film, especially given the fact that director noobs Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn would be taking over. What we knew before today was that the plot was going to involve sentient food monsters and that 'Flight of the Conchords' Kristen Schaal had been added to the cast to voice an orangutan character. Now, a more detailed cast list has been revealed. As expected, or at least hoped, Bill Hader and Anna Faris are returning as are James Caan, Neil Patrick Harris, Benjamin Bratt, and Andy Samberg. Will Forte will also be returning, but voicing a different character than he did in the first movie. This time around, he will be playing an inventor idol of Flint Lockwood's named Chester V. Also revealed is that Terry Crews ('The Expendables 2') will be joining the cast and that the sequel will be called 'Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers.'
Yes, yes, and yes please. I am more excited for 'Cloudy 2' than I've been for an animated sequel in...I can't even tell you how long. I am so glad, though thoroughly unsurprised that they got Hader and Faris back, but some of the other returning cast members are a bit more of a shock. For example, I didn't think NPH would be able to squeeze this film into his schedule given his commitment to 'How I Met Your Mother.' I love the idea of the sentient food monsters, they name a few in the source story as well. Tacodiles, shrimpanzee, and apple pie-thons? A return trip to the 'Cloudy' universe that includes bad food puns? Count me in! I'm wondering about Crews' involvement. I don't see Mr. T's name among the returning players and wonder if maybe Crews will be voicing the police officer character in his stead. That would be a daunting challenge, one worthy of pity. I'm still a bit nervous about the new directing team, but it's not always the case in Hollywood that experience guarantees quality so I'll reserve judgment until I see it.
What do you guys think? Is anyone excited for 'Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers?' What other pun-y food monsters do you hope to see?

This is one of those great films that does NOT need a sequel.

@Sean McSorley: I don't think Bruce Campell is coming back since having eaten his peanut-butter-and-jelly-sandwich boat his greedy Mayor Shelbourne was lost at sea at the end of the first movie.
I can't wait for this movie.
I'm so glad that the original cast of the first movie is coming back for Cloudy 2 Revenge of the Leftovers but I hope Mr. T comes back too.
