If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Since the first cryptic inklings of Brad Bird's 'Tomorrowland' crept onto the web, it has become one of the foremost projects on which we should all be keeping an eye. Formerly titled '1952,' 'Tomorrowland' will be based on a script by Damon Linelof ('Prometheus') and center on, according to recent reports, a ragtag team of heroes who must save the world by discovering what happened to Tomorroland. So far, we know that George Clooney has been cast in the lead and Hugh Laurie will be taking on the villain role. Now it seems a decidedly younger performer has signed on. Raffey Cassidy, the British actress who played the younger version of Kristen Stewart in 'Snow White and the Huntsman,' has joined the cast as a young girl robot who has existed for decades. Her character is said to be versed in several different fighting styles and has some relationship with Clooney's character, said to be a bitter inventor. 'Tomorrowland' is currently scheduled to be released on December 19th, 2014.
A little girl robot, eh? Well that's interesting. Obviously as a sci-fi movie, the appearance of a pint-sized android is not outlandish. Not to mention the fact that the previously mentioned purported plot synopsis indicated that the team of heroes would be comprised of "a teenage girl, a genius middle-aged man (who was kicked out of Tomorrowland) and a pre-pubescent girl robot." The casting of Cassidy doesn't necessarily completely confirm that synopsis, but it does lend a considerable amount of legitimacy to it. It's difficult to assess whether Cassidy is the right choice for the role, considering her film work has been limited and relegated to playing younger versions of central characters. She also played the child version of Eva Green's character in Tim Burton's 'Dark Shadows.' However, it is encouraging that Cassidy was the top choice from a worldwide casting search. I am interested in the idea of a child robot who is also an adept fighter. One can imagine how her skills will come in handy during the course of the story.
What do you guys think? Does the casting of Cassidy as a little girl robot verify the previously revealed synopsis? Any guesses as to the finer details of the plot?
