If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Love him or hate him, Director Baz Luhrmann ('Moulin Rouge!') is set to begin filming his 3D adaptation of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel 'The Great Gatsby' in August. Known for his flamboyant use of color and shotgun-quick cuts, this will be the first 3D film from the Australian director, and will reunite him with actor Leonardo DiCaprio (who will play Jay Gatsby) for the first time since 1996's 'Romeo + Juliet'.
The book tells the story of Nick Carraway, a young man from Minnesota, who moves to New York in 1922 and discovers the world of the "new rich" - people who have become rich too recently to establish social connections and are hence prone to garish displays of their wealth. One of these "new rich" is Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio), who is the catalyst for an entire tragedy of romance, affairs, deception and death, as Gatsby seeks to reunite with his erstwhile lover, Carraway's cousin Daisy Buchanan who is herself married to a philandering husband.
No word yet on who will play Nick Carraway, but 'Never Let Me Go' actress Carey Mulligan has reportedly been offered the role of Daisy. 'The Great Gatsby' will be filmed in Sydney, Australia and will be the first ever live-action 3D film shot in New South Wales.
