From the awesome visuals,to the amazing voice acting, and finally to the awesome action scenes made this a movie worth owning and worth watching over which is a quality a lot of the DCAU direct to DVD movies dont have. Benjamin Mckenzie may have made an amazing young Batman, but it was Bryan Cranston who totally stole the movie. He was the perfect choice for the voice of a younger Jim Gordon(Othen then Jim Meskimen who voiced Young Nolan Batverse Jim Gordon in Batman Gotham Knight and did a kick ass job) and he made the Batman Year One version of Gordon a very likeable character. The other awesome parts of the movie were the fact that the main villains werent actually supervillains, but made up of the rich mob bosses and the corrupt police force(Which is what made Nolans Batman films a lot more interesting then the Burton and Schuemacher films) and they actually prove that Gotham is the #1 paradise city for criminal scum.
The most interesting of the most awesome parts of this movie were the visual effects added to the film and the animated version of the original artwork in the original Year One graphic novel. The modern animated style of the way places looked like in the 1930s made this movie a really cool noire Batman film. I hope to see more noire styled animated comic book films in the future, because theres something about the days of Noire that comic book fans like me cant get enough of. The action scenes in this film were the most detailed choriographed animated fight scenes Ive seen since Green Lantern Emerald Knights. The fight between Pre Batman Disguised Bruce and Selina Kyle was the most awesome fight in this movie(Other then Batman escaping the corrupt police force by evading all of the rounds of ammo shot at him and getting injured badly).
The coolest stuff about Bryan Cranston playing Jim Gordon was how he portrayed the young heart of gold Gordon so well. Even though he made some mistakes like having an affair he made you feel like he was really ashamed of the affair and how he tried to makeup for mistakes. The ending had to be the weakest part of the film, because the fight Batman has with Carmine Falcones son is like done in a matter of seconds. Though the good part about the ending was finding out Batmans next criminal to stop would be his arch nemesis The Joker.
I highly recommend buying this if your a real Batman fanatic or want to see a really fun to watch animated comic book film.
