Awesome New Image From Disney's 'John Carter'

Entertainment Weekly recently released this image from the upcoming Disney flick 'John Carter.' Based on the novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the film will follow Civil War veteran John Carter as he is transported to Mars and forced to intervene in a new conflict of epic proportions. In this image, we see John, played by Taylor Kitsch ('The Covenant,' 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'), battling a great white ape, the design of which is absolutely fantastic. I have to say I wasn't terribly interested in this film prior to seeing this image. But now I am certainly intrigued. Check it out below and tell us what you think.

'John Carter' hits theater March 9, 2012

@Douglas Jackson: Wow...just...wow, man. You have no idea how much it lightens my heart to hear someone seeing a film based on source material and ACTUALLY GOING TO THE SOURCE FIRST!

Honestly, I don't know a lot about John Carter, and I have only read a single book on him years ago. From what I can remember, the series was very much 'pulp sci-fi', with less emphasis on action and realism...and more on fantastic places and beings. Hence the Barbarians of Mars theme they have going seem on par with the story, but I think there were jungles and forests as well? Could someone well versed in the lore comment on what we SHOULD expect?

The back ground and the monster looks great but it doesn't look like the dude is even there.

Wow... All these images are starting to tilt me back to excited. There's so much life to them and I'm getting an odd Firefly vibe, like their making a western metaphor... I like what I'm seeing.

I'm a sucker for monster movies. And I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a man-crush on Tim Riggins. Count me in.
