My kids kept telling me about this show Avatar: The Last Airbender. When I first saw it, I could not help but think of bad anime from the 90's. Then I actually listened and watch the show. I was amazed of how I fell in love with all of the characters and the story. So, when the announcement of the live action version was coming. I was giddy as a little girl getting a pony on Christmas.
When the movie started it was nice to see that they kept the opening sequence from the show. From there, it was a free fall. I had to look past the fact that 2 of the main character were white, when they should have been Eskimo. I let that go. They did need funding right? I also had to look past the pronunciation of the characters names. There was no room for error there right? M. Night Shyamalan directed, wrote, and produced a disaster. You would think he would follow the shows plot points to drive his story. But this would not be his way.
He left out important characters, plot points, and explanations that got me to love the show. The was no character development, the story was choppy, and the effects were below average. Everything I loved about the show was gone. The action scenes were even lower than the effects. Notice I haven't touched upon the acting. Think Disney show and I will leave it there.
If you love the show, stick to the show. If you don't know the show, watch it on Netflix and don't watch this movie. I have to give this movie Some 'ol BULLSHIT!!!
