Akroyd Still Planning 'Ghostbusters 3', Reveals Plot

Source: THR

On a recent taping of the Dennis Miller radioshow, actor and writer Dan Akroyd spilled the beans on the oft-rumored 'Ghostbusters 3' and the current plot synopsis for the rebooted franchise. While the major sticking point in negotiations has always been Bill Murray's resistance to giving up his currently brilliant career for a quick namesake cash-in, Akroyd seems to think that the film would move forward regardless:

"Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray... That is our hope. We have an excellent script. What we have to remember is that Ghostbusters is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and Sigourney [Weaver]. The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of Ghostbusters 3 is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood."

On said "new blood":

"My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the Cadillac... He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs... Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that's the premise. We're gonna hand it to a new generation."

There you have it. When the original team gets too old to do the job, it's up to a brand new (most likely gender and ethnically diverse) team to take up the proton packs and fight the things that go bump in the night. However, according to Sony there is still no plans to begin work on the film, especially without Murray on board. However, with the aging subplot it would be rather easy for them to simply write Murray out of the script. However, still no love for Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson)? Where's my "Team Winston" shirt at...

Sounds like Ghostbusters Extreme, which I found entertaining

PERSONALLY...Yeh I like the sound of this, hand it off to a new generation of Ghostbusters. It'd be Ghostbusters meets the Karate Kid.

But would i like to see more movies after this without the orignal Ghostbusters?.....Nah

I would like to see a premise like this in Ghostbusters 3, giving the Cowl to a new set of Ghostbusters. This would be great for Sony, since it is a great marketing idea. Introduce a new set of young Ghostbusters, then you can bring back Ghostbusters to the new generation of kids. Then, you have another money making machine. However, I love the first Ghostbusters, and liked the second one. So I don't want a bad quality film that's just made for money, and I am a fan who says that it would be great to have the whole cast to come back for one final movie, including the illusive Bill Murray. So it all depends on Bill Murray since Sony doesn't think the film would succeed without him... the man who has avoided making this film since the 1990s. So I doubt this film will come out, which make me sad

Winston should deffo be in there, have they seen Hudson lately? He is in fantastic shape he could lead the new blood team easily.

I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan so anything new involving the Ghostbusters I am down with. The storyline in the Ghostbusters videogame on the PS3 and XBOX was pretty great. Hopefully Murray just jumps on board before it's too late. Would love to see all of the original cast one more time and hand it off to a new group. Would be spectacular!!

Bill Murray is notoriously known for being hard to get in contact with. He really doesn't have any representatives to go through when someone has a role in mind for him.

@ Superbadmike

I can only speak for myself, but personally, I have nothing against Seth Rogen...per se.  I just don't find him funny.

Goddamn, what does everyone have against Seth Rogen? He never really made a really crappy movie. He's one of the funniest actors out there , though I agree he is being overused lately.
