'Sin City' Sequel Adds Three More To Its Cast

A few months ago, it wasn't clear whether Robert Rodriguez's 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' was ever going to happen. Now, not only does the movie have an October release date, but it has considerably beefed up its cast in the last few weeks. Joseph Gordon-Levitt came aboard earlier this month as the gambler Johnny, followed shortly by Josh Brolin taking over the role of Dwight from Clive Owen, due to 'Dame's playful chronological relationship to the plot of the first film. Now it appears a trio of impressive names has been added to this already formidable roster. Ray Liotta ('Goodfellas'), Juno Temple ('Killer Joe'), and Jeremy Piven ('Entourage') have all come aboard. At this point, their character descriptions are being kept secret.

Wow, 'A Dame to Kill For' is shaping up to be a sensational ensemble...much as was the first 'Sin City.' Of this latest batch of cast additions, I'm not sure if I'm more excited for Juno Temple or Jeremy Piven. Piven is one of my favorite comedic character actors, and the sole reason I kept watching 'Entourage' once it started to lag. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, whatever you may feel about that last season of 'Entourage,' it's well worth watching for Ari's story arc and Piven's performance. Temple on the other hand wowed me to no end in William Friedkin's 'Killer Joe,' and I'm very much looking forward to seeing her in another film noir. Ray Liotta is a guy I respect, but he's become so ubiquitous in both independent theatrical and direct-to-video fare that it's kind of hard to get excited about his new projects. All that being said, are they really still adding cast members with only nine months until release? Wouldn't that suggest that none of the just-added actors will have major roles? Hopefully this comes together well, because the last thing we need is a rushed, unbalanced 'Sin City' sequel.

What do you guys think? Are you happy Liotta, Temple, and Piven are joining the 'Dame to Kill For' cast? Doesn't it seem like the movie should be further along by now?

Remember that the opening sequence/pitch for the original Sin City was made entirely in a day. Casting characters this soon to launch doesn't necessarily mean anything.
