English Motherfucker posted a statusNicolas Winding Refn ('Drive,' 'Bronson') is quickly becoming one of my favorite filmmakers. His knack for infusing crime dramas with vibrant and captivating style and instantly iconic characters is fantastic. His latest film, 'Only God Forgives' once again has him teaming with Ryan Gosling. The film revolves around a man living in exile in Bankok, operating a boxing club as a front for drug smuggling, who is tasked by his mother to get revenge on the people who killed his brother. It sounds perfect for a Winding Refn project and I'm so ecstatic to see it. Today, the first footage, albeit brief footage, from the movie has leaked online. It appears to be from a Canal+ festival trailer reel so the quality isn't ideal. It is clear, however, that 'Gangster Squad's Jerry Wooters won't be the only badass Gosling plays this year.
'Only God Forgives' hits American theaters this summer

Comment by Joel Hahn on January 7, 2013 at 6:33pm I guess I’ll be the lone voice of descent. I thought Drive sucked. I’ve never seen Bronson, but Drive made no sense. Was Goslings character supposed to be autistic or something? He spent half his time on screen smirking like he ripped a silent one that Carey Mulligan would soon smell. His motivations were never explained and the soundtrack was overrated. It may have looked pretty, but that was it.
Comment by OneironauticalOne on January 7, 2013 at 6:22pm Goes to show how little I look into things but II had no idea Refn was behind both Bronson and Drive. I did however enjoy both films immensely, so I'm in.
Comment by Lt. Commander Armstrong on January 7, 2013 at 6:10pm How much I loved Drive assured me seeing this film whether it ends up being good or bad. However short this footage is, Refn doesn't appear to disappoint.
