The idea of Ashton Kutcher ('That 70s Show') playing iconic tech magnate Steve Jobs probably doesn't sit well with many, and I count myself in that camp of descent. Nevertheless, the one thing I can say for Joshua Michael Stern's 'Jobs,' is that early production photos have revealed that Kutcher is the spitting image of the late Apple co-founder. The movie will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah later this month and now it looks as if Open Road Films has picked up the distribution rights. On top of that, or maybe as a result of 'Jobs' finding its distro partner, the official release date(ish) for the movie has been disclosed. 'Jobs' will arrive in theaters in April of this year. Meanwhile, Sony's Steve Jobs biopic, to be penned by Aaron Sorkin ('Moneyball,' 'The West Wing'), still has no release date in sight.
Probably the best thing that could've happened for Stern's biopic was to be released ahead of Sony's. This was a near certainty given the fact that Sony's project still had not cast its lead role, but problems could have still arisen that could've potentially narrowed that gap between the two releases. So we're getting Kutcher's take on Jobs first? That's nice. I still don't give a crapple. I can't stand Kutcher as a performer no matter the genre. I think 'Butterfly Effect' pretty clearly proved he's just as inept at drama as he is at comedy, so apart from his resemblance to Steve Jobs, with the help of the hair and makeup department, his viability for the role is highly suspect. I'm also not a fan of Open Road as a company. They've only put out two films worth talking about, 'End of Watch' and 'The Grey,' and their reliance on the shadiest of marketing tricks, staged audience reactions and an actual "post your darkest secrets on Facebook" campaign, long ago soured me on them. I'll still see 'Jobs,' but like so many Apple product users, I'll trade it in for something better down the road.
What do you guys think? Are you interested in this version of the Steve Jobs biopic? Could there be any reason the filmmakers cast Kutcher other than his resemblance to Jobs?

I think your only saying that because you agree with Brian's opinion. I'm no fan of Kutcher either, but Brian always feels the need to include his opinion on every news story he writes. Spill.com used to just present the facts of a story. No personal bias was included in the articles. These articles are more like opinion pieces than news stories. Sorry if that makes me an asshole.
Comment by ShadowNeverDies on January 7, 2013 at 10:06am Yeah we aren't being assholes for critiquing a piece of writing where someone is getting paid to critique someone who is also get paid to act. The only one not getting paid is us the commenters so we aren't assholes. And despite whatever Brian is feeling he knows none of us want him fired (We like Brian), we are just giving our opinions on how he should write the news stories. He doesn't have to listen to us, it's all just opinions. And kostantinos orfanos get off Brian's massively gigantic dong before you piss off his wife. See that was me being an asshole lol.
Comment by C on January 7, 2013 at 1:45am We're being assholes for not wanting what's supposed to be a story about a film getting a distributor being diverted into a diatribe about an actor? And as I said, an actor who's performance we haven't even been able to gauge yet. The whole second paragraph of this story is completely unnecessary given it has no relevance to the item at hand (Open Road being named distributor) and it's not unreasonable to expect that it could have been omitted. Spill.com used to present these news stories with just the facts and that was it, and we would all still discuss the issue no problem, but we see more and more often these news articles have a personal bias to them that we, as people who can make our own informed opinions, don't really need. But ok, don't read any more dissenters(!), but if you're wanting people not to read then you're giving people a reason not to come here, and I don't think that's what the guys running spill.com would want.

Comment by kostantinos orfanos on January 6, 2013 at 10:30am wow, you guys are being assholes, is Brian Salisbury post he can write what ever he wants, if you don't like it don't read it
and i think this movie is going to bomb
Comment by ShadowNeverDies on January 5, 2013 at 11:28pm I think what can be taken from this is even if people agree with Brian he should lessen how biased he comes off in some of these news stories. Not to say their shouldn't be a little bias come out here and there (and he's usually good about it) but recently for whatever reason these have started to become very opinionated. Like I know Brian doesn't really like Snyder but his Man of Steel posts usually have just a bit of bias to them which is fine. This is Spill.com not CNN damnit lol.
Comment by Greg Orsi on January 5, 2013 at 9:38pm Toby Jones! Get it!?
Comment by Dingle Fairy on January 5, 2013 at 9:33pm I am interested mostly because I want to see why they selected him for the role.
Comment by Obscene Otter on January 5, 2013 at 8:19pm I agree with ShadowNeverDies.
Comment by C on January 5, 2013 at 6:59pm Agree with the sentiments expressed by Doug, Hicks, Aimal and Nightshadow below. I miss the days where these snippets of news would be just that without the needless personal opinions. That's what news is supposed to be, the facts without bias or prejudice. All we need from this post is the information about the distributor, we don't need whining about an actor whose just doing his job and performance hasn't been seen yet to be critiqued, and as others have shown below, Salisbury, not everyone agrees with you regarding Kutcher's abilities as an actor.
And it's not 'camp of descent', it's 'dissent'. At least proof-read what you're going to put up, especially if you're going to use your posts as a mouthpiece for complaint.
