Christoph Waltz May Turn Up In 'Muppets' Sequel

A few months ago, Ty Burrell ('Modern Family') was added to the cast of 'The Muppets' sequel as a villainous Interpol agent. This followup to the hit 2011 film would be absent Jason Segel, who starred in and co-wrote 'The Muppets,' but writer Nick Stoller and director James Bobin would both be returning. Ty Burrell was actually brought on to replace, of all people, Christoph Waltz ('Django Unchained'). Waltz was evidently scheduled to appear in the movie but had to back out due to scheduling conflicts. However, in a recent interview, Waltz revealed that perhaps he won't be entirely absent from 'The Muppets 2.' Though he wasn't completely certain, he mentioned that he might still be making a cameo in the movie. However he did stress, oddly, that dancing with Miss Piggy may not be logistically possible. Take a look at the video below, Waltz talks 'Muppets' just at the end.

Ordinarily, cameos outside of the comic book film world aren't major news, and it's true that with the plethora of guest star appearances in the first 'Muppets,' it shouldn't surprise us that more of the same is planned for the sequel. However, this is Christoph freaking Waltz in a Muppet movie! Not only is he one of the best actors working today, but the juxtaposition of a serious performer (who routinely plays violent lunatics) in a family film with adorable puppets is just too awesome to contemplate. It would be one thing if this was merely something Waltz had been forced into by his forward-thinking agent, but listening to him talk about having to back out of the larger role, it's clear how excited he was about it and how happy he is to be making the cameo. Seriously, how great would he have been as the villain? Now the real question becomes, will his cameo involve him interrogating Kermit about the location of the Fraggles? Please say yes.

What do you guys think? Excited about the prospect of a Christoph Waltz cameo? Where might they fit him in?

Not to offend the Christoph Waltz fans, but I'm glad that Ty Burrell is taking the part instead. I think it's important that human roles in Muppet movies are given to actors/actresses that are more widely known to the film's audience. With the success of Modern Family, I would think more people would be familiar with Ty Burrell than Waltz. As for me, I prefer Burrell for this movie because I think comedies should be filled with comedians rather than serious actors. I don't even know who Christoph Waltz is.

It just wouldn't feel the same without Segal's heart in it. Disney being greedy assholes again.

They should have Waltz reprise his character from Django for this cameo role:

"I would like to ah-qui-yer one of your muppet niggers."

The kids would love it!

I don't know, he'd feel out of place in a Muppet film!
