Disney is still in the very early stages of putting together their third 'Tron' film, but things do seem to be progressing. Technically, the movie doesn't have an official greenlight, but recently Disney began talks with screenwriter Jesse Wigutow ('It Runs in the Family') about taking a third pass at the existing script originally penned by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. David DiGilio preformed the first rewrite back in 2011. The story details are being kept very secret, probably because they are still being sorted out, but today we might have at least our first bit of confirmed casting news. While promoting his new film 'On the Road,' here's what 'Tron: Legacy' star Garrett Hedlund said when asked if he would be appearing in the third film...
"Yeah. Are we gonna break this now? Disney's very excited. That's about that. You know, yeah, I'm very excited, Disney's very excited."
So yeah, that's about that. Whatever that means. Don't get me wrong, part of me is still very optimistic about a third 'Tron' film. As I mentioned last week, I really like 'Tron: Legacy' up to the point that Michael Sheen shows up, and I'm hoping the third film will tighten up the story issues of 'Legacy.' That said, I will admit I never considered a painfully obvious conceit: Sam Flynn will probably be in the next 'Tron.' I liked the multiple generations of Flynn in 'Tron: Legacy' because that was a nice way to acknowledge the time elapse between the original and the sequel. However, Garrett Hedlund was far from exceptional in his mouth-breathing, mumbling performance as Sam. I guess in the back of my mind I thought maybe we'd move on to someone else's story on the grid, or maybe, just maybe, Sam Flynn would be recast. I have no reason to doubt that Hedlund is incorrect or disingenuous about being cast, so hopefully he will be better coached this time...by the same director...crap.
What do you guys think? Am I being too hard on Hedlund? Are you happy the Sam Flynn story will continue or were you hoping for a new hero?

Comment by ShadowNeverDies on December 14, 2012 at 11:49am I thought he was fine and woah there @Fungusmonkey. That's a pretty low blow comparing him to Anakin Skywalker lol. Seriously though just watch the scene where Sam describes the sun, and then watch the scene in Attack of the clones where Anakin describes sand. Yeah the difference to me at least, is pretty noticeable. I also thought he emoted enough in the action scenes and he seemed to be having fun in the role so didn't really think he was wooden, his character was just jaded (daddy issues).
Comment by C on December 14, 2012 at 6:46am Wasn't impressed by him in Legacy, but the strength of the film were the visuals and the soundtrack and The Dude (and Olivia Wilde). Hoping for a third with Daft Punk doing the soundtrack again.
Comment by SidMeister on December 14, 2012 at 6:07am I really liked Garret Hedlund in Tron Legacy. But seriously they need way BETTER fucking scriptwriters! The story ofTron Legacy almost did to the Tron franchise what Terminator Salvation did to the Terminator series: It created a story that was so underwhelming and not good enough and blend to the point where the audience doesn't really have any interest in that world ANYMORE and ultimately don't feel like seeing a sequel at all.Kinda like a girl that completely turned you off. Many franchises die like that.
Comment by GorTheMovieGod on December 14, 2012 at 3:59am I really liked Hedlund in Tron Legacy. I personally loved Tron Legacy. Enjoyed the story because of the characters and the acting.
Hell yes, I really enjoyed "Legacy" and had no issues with Hedlund's performance so I'm excited about this. Maybe they'll bring in Beck and or Tron himself from Uprising. Also, they BETTER bring back Olivia Wilde's Quorra.
Comment by C.H. Gorog on December 13, 2012 at 9:46pm Alright! I liked him in Tron Legacy (although the development was pretty thin) and I hope they expand on the character more in the sequel.
Comment by Aaron Lee Lozano on December 13, 2012 at 9:32pm His character was so useless and one dimensional in that last film. He is the main reason I didn't like the last film actually. I don't know if it was this guys acting, probably is, but his character is so bleh. I am okay if Olivia WIlde comes back and actually does something more than look hot.
Comment by james osi on December 13, 2012 at 9:30pm give this movie to Brad Bird fuk et

Bleh. Hedlund subscribed to the Hayden Christensen School of Wooden Acting for the first movie. If they ever decide to make this movie, maybe they can minimize his role substantially (maybe make Quorra or whateverhernameis the main protagonist?).
