The landscape of superhero cinema for the next couple years is really starting to become clear. Much of Marvel's Phase 2 has been slated and the production schedules on these films are functioning like well-oiled machines. But what of the Marvel characters who currently reside with other studios? Well we know that Fox has set up a reboot of The Fantastic Four, and that hopefully it will wash the taste of the first two filmic adaptations of those characters out of our mouths. One move Fox has made to ensure enthusiasm from fans (or at least from me) is the hiring of 'Chronicle's Josh Trank to direct the reboot. Now it's just a matter of time, and today we know precisely how much time that amounts to. The new Fantastic Four will be released March 6th, 2015.
Wait, 2015, why does that sound so familiar? Oh yeah, because it's already shaping up to be a mammoth year for both comic book movies and cinematic geek properties in general. Keep in mind, that is the year that we are not only getting the next 'Avengers,' but it is also when Warner Brothers has promised us that long-gestating Justice League movie. Oh, AND that's when 'Ant-Man' is scheduled, and all this to say nothing of 'Star Wars Episode VII.' Sure at least one of those movies could get rescheduled, but even still 2015 is bursting with big titles. What Fox has done is stuck out its chest, turned its hat around 'Over the Top' style, and declared itself ready to compete. I have to admire the gutsy call here. That is some seriously stiff competition, especially considering how hard it is going to be to convince people to come back to see another film about these heroes after being burned twice. No offense, Johnny Storm. Trank is going to have to put together something really solid to hold his own against the other titans of the year, but I believe he's up to snuff.
What do you guys think? Is Fox crazy to release their Fantastic Four movie in 2015? Do you think they can compete with all the other huge flicks coming out that year?

Comment by Jay Perry on December 13, 2012 at 2:01pm I'll admit the second one wasn't that good, but I liked the first one. It was goofy, but fun.
But i'll give this new one a shot.

Doesn't seem like it anymore. Only other project possibly lined up is a Venom movie.
