An internet rumor cropped up today and was squashed before it even really made the rounds. Evidently there was some buzz that Mike Myers was working on a script for 'Wayne's World 3.' This would of course be the third installment of the 'Wayne's World' movie series based on the 'Saturday Night Live' sketch starring he and Dana Carvey as cable-access rock music goofs. The new movie was going to center on the duo as they dealt with what they perceived as terrible contemporary music. It's been nearly twenty years since 'Wayne's World 2,' so this news, purportedly based on an Entertainment Weekly story circulating through email, was more than a bit surprising. But unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your view of the situation, the EW story turned out to be a categorical fake. Myers is in no way working on a new 'Wayne's World' script and no third installment seems to be in the works.
So why report on this? Because it is an apt reminder of Hollywood's current climate. There was a time when you could hear something like "they're making a sequel to a short-lived comedy franchise that died off two decades ago" and know immediately that it wasn't true. Now, with the desperate studios harbor to have recognizable brand names attached to films, we can't be so sure that they wouldn't pull something like this. Don't believe me? How about the fact that a third 'Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure' is actually in development? Or the sequel to 'Twins?!' And, in terms of absurd branding, Candyland, Stretch Armstrong, and practically the rest of your childhood toy box are getting their own films. However, this overwhelming branding trend is not the biggest reason I'm glad the third 'Wayne's World' isn't happening. The sad fact is, Mike Myers has completely lost his touch. 'The Love Guru,' 'The Cat in the Hat,' 'Goldmember?' Can anyone remember the last time this guy's movies were any good? Believe me, I'm saddened by this, I loved Myers' stuff in the 90s, but it seems his sense of humor didn't survive Y2K.
What do you guys think? Are you surprised they aren't doing a 'Wayne's World 3?' Would you have gone to see it if it were a real project? Do agree Myers has lost his touch?

Comment by MahMahAfro on November 21, 2012 at 7:00pm Normally I love watchin a train wreck, but the Love Guru was so godawful I couldn't even make it to the halfway mark, which officially makes it worse than this movie -
tbh I don't care if I never see Myers and Carvey on the screen again as most of the time it results in garbage, and I'm not nostalgic enough for their '90s antics to really give a crap.
Mike Myers is like Adam Sandler, it's not a matter of him "loosing his touch" it's a matter of Us being more mature now and being able to see past their bullshit and lazy "comedy" ;) .
Comment by The One They Called Chucky on November 21, 2012 at 3:32pm I'd say there needs to be a Wayne's World 3, if you ask me. But, only as a last hurrah, goodbye kind of deal. Like a Toy Story 3. There is comedy potential there, and if Myers wasn't the only guy working on it, I'd think it could turn into something special.
But that's just me, apparently the only guy who liked both Wayne's Worlds.

Comment by BlackMagic on November 21, 2012 at 2:27pm This was a rumor? So long after the sequel? Huh. Guess people need something to report on. Not you all- the original rumor. Also, isn't Mike Myers supposedly doing another Austin Powers film?
Also, if anything, this probably would've given Dana Carvey something to do.
