As Marvel's Phase 2 gets under way, with several of its tentpole characters in the midst of filming their next solo adventures, our collective intrigue surrounding 'The Avengers 2' looms. Much speculation has been flying about regarding villains, stories, and possible additions to the team. Though few concrete details have been released by the studio, apart from the return of director Joss Whedon, one UK source seem pretty confident that Ms. Marvel will be featured in the sequel. Not only do they reveal that she'll turn up, but they go so far as to state that two actresses are in the running for this highly sought after role: Emily Blunt ('Looper') and Ruth Wilson ('Luther'). The source also claims 'Avengers 2' will go into production next year. None of this has been confirmed by Marvel, Whedon, or Paramount.
I have a feeling this is precisely the sort of news piece that will be instantly refuted by the studio, but then again, it's not at all outside the realm of possibility. Ms. Marvel is a long-standing Marvel character with plenty of established ties to both The Avengers and The X-Men. She would make a fine addition to the next film, especially given that we don't know which storyline they will be basing it on and therefore have no reason to suspect her appearance would be counter-intuitive. It could very well be a comic threadline in which she heavily factors. There's also the fact that Whedon has garnered a reputation for developing strong female characters so it would make sense that he would be keen on her coming aboard. As to the purported casting race, Emily Blunt somewhat makes sense considering she was at one time supposed to play Black Widow. So all of these pieces are logical, but that also makes them easy to toss out in speculation and present as fact. I am dubious of the validity of this story.
What do you guys think? Could you see this happening? Or do you see this as just another fleeting rumor?

Comment by mjtfreeze on October 9, 2012 at 10:24am Ms Marvel is a step in the right direction. Could it be that Marvel/Disney are covering their bases, for when they get back the film rights for X-Men.
Comment by SunGod on October 9, 2012 at 9:17am not related but id really like to see black panther. In this marvel continuity idk if ms marvel would make much sense unless they do a good job explaining her origin. Still i have no doubt they could make this work

But does Ms Marvel's presence mean the Kree will appear in Avengers 2?
Comment by Brad G on October 9, 2012 at 7:01am Ok... It's Captain Marvel now. Not Ms. Marvel. Let's catch up people.

Comment by Jer G. Gernault on October 9, 2012 at 4:24am katee shackoff has the required hips, knows how to fight and required thickness to make ms marvel believable tricia can tr pull it off unless she get more fat than muscles. most of the actresses right now at hollywood can t do it because they d look like seth green trying out for a conan the barbarian role
Comment by Shepard Tone on October 9, 2012 at 4:11am Glad they are getting more of a balance and diversity with the team in terms of sex and race. And with the addition of Falcon that will also help. I'm all for more diversity in the cast. It'll be a little fishy if its just a bunch of white people...
