When it comes to live action video game based movies, the film adaptation of the Yakuza (translation of actual name: Like a Dragon) directed by Takashi Miike is supposed to be at least decent. Then again (with exception of the non-canon Zombie shooter spinoff), the Yakuza games have simple storylines when compared to something like Resident Evil.

its Ganesha not Ganesh and he's not a she. and i don't think anyone made a big fuss about it because one i doubt many have seen it (i only know of the picture because you guys) and 2. one of precepts is what is is. most likely any hindu who saw it thought what i did, "disgusting americans" and went on about their life. if you talk about it more and start spreading the existence of the picture you doing exactly what the artist wanted which is making him/her famous and keeping something so vile in circulation, its best to ignore it and it will disappear in time but that doesn't mean doesnt offend anyone

Leon I agree with you, i got your back(sort of).

Yeah I'm a gamer, born in 1987 lived through NES, SNES, PSX, N64, NGC, Wii, 360, PS3 and most handhelds....Video Games are not art, nowhere near it. They're Design. The reason why is they're still games, there has been no moment of transcendence. They have not become more than what they are in the years they been around as opposed all other art forms.

Film was initially was a cheaper way to show plays and other live performances, it became film as we know it when film makers experimented with early forms of editing thus becoming the modern language of film making began, as its own art form.

Literature and Visual Art were initially for the sole purpose of recording and articulating information and messages. Comics evolved from illustration as an attempt to articulate information more visually to a largely illiterate population and for illustrators to get paid more per image.

The performing arts were born out social rituals and sympathetic magic and the need to communicate emotions on a collective level.

When all these mediums were made the "inventors" were solving a core problem, communication: "how do I articulate this to other people or more people?" and through curiosity and experimentation found the art in each respective medium.

Games are simply games. Sure, they've gotten more spectacular and complicated, but they are still games. Yeah they have artists and illustrators work on elements of the games and artists have used game as subject matter in high and low brow art(Sleeping Mario & Marco Brambillia's work are good examples of this), but that's like saying if you hang a painting in a hospital, it makes the hospital art. If that's the case, games can only be art by association? if so, then games are not art.
Art does not equal work, there's no quota of man hours you have to clock in to be an artist.   Art does not equal skill either as you don't have to be a good artist to make good art. In art your trying to articulate something internal for the ultimate goal of beauty(in the broadest sense of the word), not to function or win.

In games your trying to "win", your fulfilling a base need to act no different than a sport. Saying Flower is art is like saying jogging is art. You can jog as long as you want, you can take the most scenic route available. there is a subjective narrative arc in jogging if your reflect on the jog. there is still a point B to be actively be obtained, which is up to you.

The story telling in VGs is a merely a justification for the game-play, it more set dressing then a true story. Snake is a spy because game's design demands him to be that way since it's a stealth game. Even in more open ended games, like Red Dead the world demands you do various things to achieve the many goals through the illusion of choice; it a game with points A-Bs-A. you start a point A and can go to one of many point Bs which lead back to point A and the reward is more point Bs.

Even the criticism of games is not focused on the aesthetic, it asks the question "does this function?". a redundant critique on GT and other VG review sites is the lack of online features, this is not a critique of aesthetic value, this a critique of convenience and more in line with a product review.

Now I do appreciate games as unique melding of sports and design, the designers behind them are ingenious and put together great games. Sure the storytelling is still lousy/non-existent, but I appreciate them on the grounds that they can build an engaging fields of play or competition. Miyamoto, Levine, Schaffer, and Notch have more in common with designers like Karim Rashad, Ray and Charles Eames, Philippe Stark, and Massimo Vignelli than they do Picasso, Lenora Carrington, Lee Bontecou, and Andy Warhol or any other artist.

LEON, what was the movie that you couldn't remember that had A LARGE ensemble cast that actually worked from earlier this year?? Was it The Avengers?

I gotta say, Lee was great on the mic.  Much like Mr. Pretty Tony (who has been great in the past as well), he knew when to chime in and when to stay silent.  When he did contribute it ended up really adding to the discussion and/or making me laugh.  Great job dude.

The only problem I had with Lee is everytime Korey says his name I keep expecting it to be followed with "on".  So I propose that if and when you have Lee back on, we have to give him an alias...............jsut kidding.

That Lee guy is so much like Co-Host 3000. Close in voice but even closer in personality.

Did you buy him from the same manufacturer?
