First Glimpse Of James Franco In Sam Raimi's 'Oz: The Great And Powerful'
There are few things more bizarre, in my opinion, than the idea of Sam Raimi ('The Evil Dead') directing a 'Wizard of Oz' prequel. Yet such is the case with 'Oz: The Great and Powerful.' The film stars James Franco as the classic wizard and charts the path that lead him to become the ruler of Oz. Though the film is still quite far from release, an Italian coming attractions advertisement gives us our first glimpse of Franco in the role. It's not the best image, mind you, but it's still interesting. The balloon in the background is a nice callback to the iconic original story. Take a look at the image below and let us know what you think.

I don't know...I like James Franco. I think he's probably a really cool guy. And he certainly does have acting talent. But when he gets that dreamy/I'm-trying-to-look-dramatic look on his face (like he has here)...he just looks silly. I can't take that face seriously. I feel like he's about to crack up laughing any second.

Baum wrote 14 Oz books, and the best we can hope for a prequel? I realize that MGM's "The Wizard of Oz" is an American classic, but come on!
