If it's crap ... We'll tell you

It seems fitting that we are but a few days from the release of Timur Bekmambetov's 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' and we're getting whiffs of new developments on the 'Wanted' sequel. The 2008 film, loosely based on Mark Millar's graphic novel, told the story of a low level desk-jockey (James McAvoy) who one day finds out his father was an assassin; a revelation that throws him headlong into a series of shootouts, car chases, and otherwise absurd action set pieces. Apparently, the gang behind the original movie has been toying with the idea of a sequel pretty much since the final credits rolled. During an interview, as part of the 'AL:VH' press tour, director Bekmambetov had this to say...
"An unbelievable thing happened three weeks ago. Because we stopped, we didn't know what to do for three or four years. Three weeks ago I came up with a great idea and I pitched this idea and everybody fell in love with it. And now I think we're on track. Right now the writer is working on the script, and it will be shocking."
'WANTED' SPOILERS IN THIS PARAGRAPH
He seems genuinely excited about it, but this could be a calculated move to ensure attention remains on his current project while simultaneously generating anticipation for the 'Wanted' sequel. That said, I couldn't care less about another 'Wanted.' I'm way more excited about a campy history/fantasy mash-up than I am about another chore like 'Wanted.' I know some people really liked the film, and I don't at all blame them for it, but it did absolutely nothing for me. The major obstacle here is that the film's biggest stars (Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman) were both killed at the end, and there has been no mention of even attempting to bring them back. Granted, trying to force-feed us a storyline wherein those two survived would be moronic, but without the two of them I don't really see any reason to do a sequel. I don't know, maybe my distaste for this film is making me short-sighted.
Any fans of 'Wanted' excited about a sequel? Any ideas where they could go with the plot to make it work?

James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman were the two things i like about this movie, couldn't give 2 shits about anything or anyone else!!!! A sequel is not needed!!!
Comment by Jer G. Gernault on June 21, 2012 at 4:47pm as i don t see any way to make angie ugly take weight and stop her mummrah cosplay, i don't give a skubk about her return : she wrecked a perfect movie to me, and a scene supposedly sexy and steamy was just adude fucking grey skull. she can ggo back playing crzy girls anytime but somewhere else than in my movies.
Comment by Zuri Ch on June 21, 2012 at 12:59pm i wont mind as long as they don't do something insane like bring back jolie and freeman. just do "the next chapter" sort of... yeh i wont mind...
Comment by Chad Ehrhart on June 21, 2012 at 12:07am Well Hell I'll admit Wanted is a guilty pleasure of mine. So I wouldn't mind a sequel.
Comment by Mike C. on June 20, 2012 at 11:28pm As long as he's wearing the getup from the comics in the sequel. Maybe since Morgan Freeman's League of Assassins was wiped out in the last movie, he'll pursue more selfish, criminal goals with all his abilities and stuff, and it'll enter the universe Millar set up. But seeing as it's Bekmambetov again, probably not.

Comment by von guda on June 20, 2012 at 9:20am I loved this movie< I don't know why who ever wrote this article is such a hater but o'well. I'm hyped for a sequel and I'll be the on opening day!
Comment by Ruben Baeza on June 20, 2012 at 12:44am I would watch this movie but I have better action films at home and I'm still waiting to see The Raid, a real action movie that makes the guys from wanted feel shameful that they couldn't come up with action that bites the throat. Wanted is just another example of style over substance. I think wanted goes on the same list with the very lame Sucker punch.
