Marvel President Confirms 'Thor 2's Villain Is Not Thanos

Usually when a rumor is debunked, it's one that's made such waves that the debunking was absolutely essential. Perhaps that is indeed the case with the rumor concerning 'Thor 2's villain, but I guess I completely missed it. Apparently there were murmurs that Thanos, Marvel's death-courting super-baddie, was going to be the next foe for the God of Thunder to grapple with once he returned to Asgard and his own franchise. But in a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Marvel President Kevin Feige shot that rumor right the hell down. When asked whether we'd see Thanos in 'Thor 2,' he said...

"No, future, future. But there will be a major new villain. A major, major new antagonist..."

WARNING: AVENGERS SPOILERS BELOW. DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT.

Ok, I think that should be sufficient to ensure that the three people who haven't seen 'The Avengers' aren't spoiled. Given that Thanos shows up at the end of the movie, I suppose this rumor made some logical sense. However, I guess I took it for granted that Thanos would be the next Avengers villain and not utilized until such time as 'The Avengers 2' hit theaters. With the interconnected universe Marvel has constructed over the last four years, maybe I should have opened my mind up to that possibility, but Feige does seem to be definitively rejecting the claim. So now the question becomes, who will be the villain in 'Thor 2?' We know that whichever character from Thor's rogues gallery is chosen, Mads Mikkelsen will be portraying him. So, not being as adept in Thor canon as I should be, I'll need some help from my knowledgeable Spillios. If the 'Thor 2' villain is not Thanos, who do you think they will go with? For which of the villains would Mikkelsen be best suited?

Someone that will be a challenge for THOR would be "Beat Ray Bill" who has defeated Thor multiple times and is absolutely much stronger than him, but is not a villain overall against Thor. "Beta Ray Bill" can start up as a villain but can help Thor out eventually to take on whomever they pit against these two titans of power.

I'm thinking he'll be Ares or Surtur. Both would be awesome to see in live-action. Even though Mads would not be right to play any of them, part of me secretly wants The Wrecking Crew to be in Thor 2.

I want a villain who Thor can actually have an epic battle with.

I love the first movie but the final fight scene between Thor and Loki was a bit anti climactic. Maybe in the sequel they should have a villain who is more of a match or maybe even more powerful than Thor.

I have no idea how anyone could confuse Thranos as the next Thor villain. He's never been a part of his storyline outside of the Avengers

As for the movie itself, I'd like to see a more earthly threat. We already did an Asgardian one...let's see something a bit more Midgard.

@Ghetto Blast. I actually noticed that the gem on Loki's sceptre looks and acts a lot like one of the infinity gems, so the gauntlet isn't out of the question.

I wonder if Thanos would have the infinity gauntlet. If he did wouldn't  that be just way too much for the avengers? Those infinity gems are no joke.

I just read Infinity gauntlet, and I don't know how they could fit all those other characters in there.I'm gonna say it's something to do with the cosmic cube yet again.I'm still excited.

Mikkelsen is a great actor so hopefully whoever the villain is, he will do a great job portraying him.

The Wrecking Crew would be a great villain for Thor 2. They appear going up against many other Marvel heroes and could have more than one appearance against more than one super hero.
