If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Hello there fellow Spillios,
I've been a big fan of film for as long as I can remember, and have been making my own movies since I was 15. After spending two years at film school, I'm about to embark on making my biggest film yet: THE PROTAGONIST. A comedy about the greatness of film that also pokes at…Continue
Greetings my fellow spillios. I'm wondering if there are any members from North Carolina. That wants to do a meetup and or be apart of a short film that I want to do.

Little Witch Academia, an animated short released by Studio Trigger in April, was one of the year's most charming surprises. Think Harry Potter, except Japanese—and way, way cuter. It's difficult to watch the short and not come out wanting more—and amazingly, it seems that's going to be a possibility. -…

We're reaching that point on 'Iron Man 3;' that critical mass of new information that pushes us from enticing appetizers to full-on spoiler territory. That being said, this short new trailer from the film's partnership with TCL (The Creative Life) features just enough new footage to not feel like we're seeing the whole movie when combined with the other available trailers. Most of the new snippets center…Continue
One of the issues facing DC's film initiative is that they are struggling to put together a Justice League movie before even giving some of the group's members their own standalone films. One character who has proven most difficult to adapt for contemporary audiences is Wonder Woman. The attempt to give the Amazonian heroine her own series on NBC, set to star Adrianne…Continue

Disney's latest short film 'Paper Man' has earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short. Though it is typically Pixar that manages to pretty much dominate animated films of any length, but Disney has stepped their game up considerably with 'Paper Man.' Now, you can watch the short online. Originally playing before …Continue
Last fall, we learned that the long-gestating 'Y: The Last Man' movie was bumped up to a priority over at New Line. The latest draft of the script, which the studio was totally jazzed about, was penned by …Continue
It's reached the point where I look forward to new Pixar shorts as much as their actual feature film to which the short is attached. This year, in front of 'Monsters University,' Pixar will be unveiling their latest short entitled 'The Blue Umbrella.' Thanks to the Wall Street Journal, we have a short sneak peek of what to expect. I love the way Pixar is constantly experimenting with…Continue
The trend of turning videogames into movies seems to be experiencing a resurgence of late with the 'Assassin's Creed,' 'Splinter Cell,' and 'Deus Ex: Human Revolution' films all very much in the works. Though there are no official…Continue
As a sucker for horror films, especially slasher films, I loved the hell out of this horror short. Entitled 'The Sleepover,' the short by Chris Cullari follows a couple of kids who have very different beliefs in The Boogeyman. I won't say anymore, other than this is not particularly safe for work. Take a gander at the short below and let us know what you think.
Glossing over the fact that Universal missed a major pun opportunity by not calling their upcoming 'Despicable Me' sequel 'Despicable Me Too,'the first teaser trailer for the film has just landed on line. What I like about it is that it plays like its own short film starring the minions. I don't know how much of the footage from the teaser will end up in the movie, as it seems so geared…Continue
A few months ago, I watched a three-minute Spanish short film called 'Mama.' It was intense and creepy as all get out, and I remembered hearing something about it being picked up for production as a feature-length film. Well today we've got the first trailer for the feature 'Mama' starring …Continue
J.J. Abrams has developed a reputation for being very protective of his movies prior to their release. On 'Star Trek Into Darkness,' he went so far as to construct metal enclosures to keep prying eyes from observing his production. True, a few set photos leaked out anyway, but Abrams clearly wants the audience…Continue

Pixar long ago established itself as one of the best animated film studios in cinema history, but let us not forget how they got started. Their short films were winning awards and acclaim long before their first feature was even scripted. There is something therefore beautifully appropriate about the fact that they continue to make 'Toy Story' shorts. Their latest short, 'Partysaurus Rex' is set…Continue
Marvel's short films up to this point have largely been post-credit enticements for whatever hero they next planned to explore. Their latest short, however, has the potential to be a fascinating exploration of how the average person deals with living in a world overrun with heroes and villains. The plot centers on a young couple who come into possession of one of the Chitauri weapons from 'The Avengers'…Continue
There was trouble brewing and pretty soon it could come to the other side of the world…..The Hybrid Clone just escaped from being dumped into the river and transported himself to Durban, South Africa. He did have a reason to travel there and unfortunately it is all a…Continue

With everyone looking forward to The Avengers, we did decided to have a little fun with the characters before we see the movie. We also did to answer a question we've asked ourselves for awhile now...
