SIDE EFFECTS (e-Review)

(Dr. Watson is about to see you now, Ms. Salander)

The first ten minutes is intriguing enough to get hyped for the story. I actually liked it a lot more than Contagion because it’s not about finding the cure anymore but actually realizing the costs of getting it. This…

'Only God Forgives' Red-Band Trailer

Nicolas Winding-Refn is one of the most fascinating filmmakers working today; completely reinventing the crime film. His latest offering, 'Only God Forgives,' once again teams him with Ryan Gosling (…

'Spring Breakers' Red-Band Trailer

I had heard people talking about 'Spring Breakers,' but I wasn't quite able to wrap my mind around the appeal. A group of girls, played by actresses best known for kids TV and family films, goes crazy on spring break and commits a series of crimes along with a greasy, shady thug played by James Franco. People were…

Gangster Squad Review

When someone says that there is a new crime film set in the '40s and '50s and it has people like Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte and plenty of other fantastic actors and actresses, you would expect it to either be Oscar caliber material or at the very least a very excellent crime drama…

First Footage From Nicolas Winding Refn's 'Only God Forgives'

Nicolas Winding Refn ('Drive,' 'Bronson') is quickly becoming one of my favorite filmmakers. His knack for infusing crime dramas with vibrant and captivating style and instantly iconic characters is fantastic. His latest film, …

Three for Three: The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Argo and Sinister Reviews

For once, the actual author of the story set out to make his version of the story on film the definitive one! Not only that but Chbosky manages to convince anyone that his version of the story and its characters in this film should be the only version to be made. It's one of those rare films that…

Looper Review

Rarely does a science fiction film make you really think about philosophical questions that are nearly impossible to answer but whenever one does come along, it's always a real treat. The same goes for time travel stories. It is so rare to find an excellent example of what a time travel movie should be because whenever…

Drive Review

In today's world, it is so hard to distinguish oneself as a filmmaker with a unique story to tell that reinvents the wheel in a way that suits both the casual viewer and the film buff who is constantly looking to be surprised by what cinema can provide for them. That is one of the brilliant things about Nicolas Winding Refn's mind that makes him such a promising filmmaker who has an incredible vision about what movies are capable of. He's been compared to some of the greats including Stanley…

In Time Review

The Robin Hood story meeting Bonnie & Clyde meeting The Fugitive meeting classic '70s sci-fi noir is a lot better than how it sounds. This movie is actually better than some people are saying because the script and story is solid and it has a lot of really good ideas. The problem with this film is the directing and the editing because it's longer than it should be and the pacing isn't awful but it definitely could've picked it up in order to keep the suspense going for…

LA Noire Review (Spoiler Free)

First lets get this out of the way, LA Noire is not a Mafia 2 clone. That's like saying LA Confidential is a clone of Goodfellas, it just isn't. Now to the review.

The story of LA Noire is Cole Phelps fresh from WWII joins the LAPD. After solving some cases with positive results, Cole starts to become a poster child for the department. Throughout the…

Best First Films

To anyone who knows me well, there's nothing I enjoy more than being a film buff. If there is a film I enjoy, I research the hell out of it and learn all there is to know about it, as well as all those involved in it. Another thing is seeing more films by that filmmaker to see how they've grown throughout their careers. That can be a fun task in…

Explaining the universal issues with "The Green Hornet"

Seth Rogen's new action movie "The Green Hornet" has earned a 44% on Rotton Tomatoes, a not so steller review from the Spill Crew, and a lot of hate from critics, and audiences alike. Now how can this be, that is the question. It's an superhero action film, and it has some popular stars such as Cameron Diaz, but it's acquired so much panning from people it baffles me that it even made $550,000 at the midnight shows.

Short Review of…
