The Five Dollar Bin 4: The Dark Bin Rises

Well it has been awhile since I've written a new $5 Bin segment so as a little refresher...

For those of you unfamiliar with Walmart, there is a very special section located in the electronic section know as The $5 Bin. In said bin, is a stack of DVD’s, each costing, you guessed it, 5 dollars. Usually it’s…

Sploich Predicts the 84th Academy Award Winners

Hey there, Sploich here with my final Oscar predictions for the 84th Academy Awards. I got a 56% accuracy rating on my nomination predictions so I'm hoping to get even better with my winner predictions. The thing is, this year is a bit tricky. My head and my heart are telling me several different things based on the other award ceremonies this year (not including the Golden Globes because, as I've stated before, they mean nothing) as well as the way the Academy typically votes. I'm just…

Sploich Predicts the 84th Oscar Nominees (FINAL PREDICTIONS)

Hey there, Sploich here with my (SERIOUSLY FINAL) predictions for the 84th Academy Award nominees. I decided to start going to the 15th with my predictions because posting them on the 1st every month was causing some problems. So here is my very VERY last updated nominee prediction list:

Best Supporting Actress

Bérénice Bejo for The Artist

Jessica Chastain for The Help

Janet McTeer for Albert Nobbs

Octavia Spencer for The Help

Shailene…

Sploich's 84th Academy Awards Nominee Preditions

Hey there, Sploich here, and Happy New Year! Over at my site, http://www.sploich.com/, I've been predicting the Oscars since about mid-2011 and today marks my last update before the actual nominees are announced. This is a hard year to predict as the nominees, no matter what they are, are going to be rather underwhelming. Regardless, here is what I have come up with and am stuck with from here on out (until February when I predict the…

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II Review

Well, here it is. The phenomenon that has captured and revitalized the imagination of children, teenagers, young adults, and even some older adults around the world is finally over and for many like myself, it is the end of our childhoods in a way and the end of a truly magical decade (pardon the pun). What else should I even need to say about this film that hasn't already been said. Everyone loves this movie and for goood reason. I've seen it twice back-to-back within one day and I still…

Audio from the Spill Live Academy Award Viewing Party 2011

As promised here's the recording from the Academy Awards show this past Sunday. I was so bored with the show I can't tell if this podcast was any good good or not. I actually got drunk halfway through the broadcast. If you do decide to listen, though, it's intended to be played while viewing the show. So if you didn't record the ceremony or don't watch it online many of the things we say won't make a lot of sense.…

2011 Oscar Predictions (What Should Win vs. What Will Win)

Best Documentary Feature

What Should Win: Exit Through the Gift Shop

What Will Win: Inside Job

I haven't seen either of these movies, but I intend to watch Exit Through the Gift Shop very soon, so this prediction is based mainly on the buzz surrounding the nominees. The audience favorite is Exit Through the Gift Shop, but something tells me that the Academy's gonna vote for the more politically controversial…

Caleb Kahn's Thoughts on the Nominees for the BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award

Well, as Oscar season comes ever closer to doing the big reveal when it comes to nominations, the select five nominees for this year's Orange Rising Star Award for the BAFTAs have been announced and for the most part, I'm very impressed and it's a select group of actors that's hard for me to pick over the other when it comes to who's the best or who has the most promise. Now, when it comes to this award, it's only been given out five previous times since the very thing that inspired it was…

In Memoriam: Pete Postlethwaite, One of the Greatest and One of the Most Underrated Actors Ever

Wow! Just wow! I simply can not believe it when I try to process the thought in my brain that Pete Postlethwaite, one of the greatest, most memorable, most recognizable, and most revered and respected actors who has ever worked in Hollywood has just left us for what could be a greater beyond. Of course, when I write a blog…

What Makes a Great Villain?

This idea for a blog has been in my mind for a long while so I thought that I might as well write it now. There has always been a question in my mind and that is what makes great villains? Frankly, there are so many aspects that make the list of great film villains who they are so I thought that we should look at some villains who have been listed over the years as being some of the greats and see exactly what makes a great villain so great, evil, despicable, and yet entertaining and…

Inception Review

Oh, man. I can't even really describe what this film is about without getting into details. So, to deviate from my routine would be to write a spoiler-filled review and that would be a sacrilege because it is best to go into this movie with as little to know as possible. Do not read plot synopses, do not look up spoilers, do not look up ANYTHING before you go see this movie. Now, I'm…

My Oscar Predictions

It's that time again, Oscartime! 2009 was a great year for films and the end to a great decade of movies. This was a year where there was something for everyone. The Hurt Locker appealed to the soldiers, The Hangover appealed to the frat boys, Where the Wild Things Are was the hipster movie of 2009, New Moon was loved by girls, Inglourious Basterds was a cinema lovers fantasy, and Avatar appealed to everyone else. With great movies throughout, and 10 best picture nominees, this will be an…

Golden Globes Analysis and Predictions! Golden Globes: January 17, 2010 @ 8pm EST. on NBC

*I apologize for any spelling or grammer mistakes*

I have to admit, awards season is of my most favorite times of the year. Its nailbiting, beautiful and appreciative all at the same time. Awards season is a time of observance and time a time of beauty. It is a time where one can truly appreciate various forms of filmmaking that are showcased at many prestigious events across the world. One of the most important ceremonies that awards filmmakers and actors/actresses for their work is… Continue

Last Year In Film: Frost/Nixon

I am an all round geek. A jack of all geek trades and a master of none and one of the facets that makes up that geek whole is political geekery. I first started to become interested in politics around the time that George W. Bush came to power as the president of the United States and so my interest has always been with American politics, which is far, far more interesting than our rather underwhelming British system, and in particular the dark, shadier side of the political… Continue
