The Vern is in love with Jessica Chastain

Hello Spillios.

I got a Jessica Chastain fix this weekend when I saw "The Debt" and "Take Shelter".  Being impressed with her work in "The Tree of Life" and the fact that she is just so amazingly beautiful.  I had to post a tribute to…

Trailer for Al Pacino's 'Wilde Salomé'

Source: Yahoo!

"It became... my obsession." Al Pacino has been hard at work for years on a stage (and film) adaptation of the once-banned Oscar Wilde play 'Salomé' - a biblical tale of lust, greed and scorn - and has catalogued the process in…

My thoughts on "THE TREE OF LIFE" movie.

****Warning some spoilers******

I remember watching a trailer for this movie several months ago, and totally being sold on it at first sight. Why? because it  reminded me of 2001 Space Oddysey, which if you don't know, is one of my favorite movies.  Its surreal and full of visual depth, that, along with the music, leads the audience through the film with minimal dialogue.  These movies aren't for the masses, mainly because it really forces you to think about whats going on and how it…

Review: Machete (2010)

Let me start by saying: welcome back Stephen Segal. We missed you and we like the change. Now that I think of it, I have never seen Stephen Segal in the theaters. Last time he was there, I was too young to watch him. It has been that long!

With that out of the way, lets get back to our hero. Machete is big, bad, lethal, and often aimless. There is nothing complex about him. You push him, he shoots you. He's like James Bond. He has no plan, but he… Continue

Random Reviews: Machete and Scott Pilgrim

Now, I've gotten ridiculously behind on these things, and I would very much like to take a second to apologize for that. Sometimes life just gets in the way.

With that out of the way, I'll start with the film I saw last night, "Machete:"

imdb summary: Three years ago in Mexico, determined Federale Machete (Danny Trejo) is betrayed and set-up by his boss, resulting in his wife and child being murdered by drug kingpin Torrez (Steven Seagal). Now, in Texas, Machete resurfaces… Continue

Driving Miss Daisy: An Acting Triumph

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a5/Driving_Miss_Daisy_.jpg

I’ve always been a huge fan of Morgan Freeman. His acting ability, screen presence, and his voice (of course) combined to make him a unique actor, whose performances in such films as The Shawshank Redemption, Million Dollar Baby, and Se7en

are some of the best that the world of cinema has to offer. It’s

because of this reason that I get excited every time I see his name

attached to another film, no…

Paranormal Activity (2009)

Don't go to sleep!

Paranormal Activity movie centers on a young couple, Katie and Micah, who are haunted by a supernatural presence in their home. The movie is presented through the camera set up by the couple to capture the paranormal activity.

Now with any mockumentary horror film, right from the get go you know there's going to be contrasts to The Blair Witch Project, and I can ultimately see why. The atmosphere is creepy, no… Continue

Awake (2007)

Could this crap actually happen?

While undergoing a heart transplant, Clay (Hayden Christensen) experiences "anesthetic awareness," a condition that allows him to see and feel everything that's happening to him but leaves him paralyzed and unable to do anything about it. From his unique and painful vantage point, Clay learns troubling truths about his young wife (Jessica Alba) as she struggles with her own demons.

When I actually… Continue

Valentine's Day Trailer

Valentine's Day staring Julia Roberts and her doppelganger 18-year-old niece, Emma. Bradley Cooper plays Julia's love interest who happens to be gay. Also features Anne Hathaway, Topher Grace, Jennifer Garner, Jamie Foxx, Patrick Dempsey, Eric Dane, Ashton Kutcher, Taylor Swift, Queen Latifah, Shirley MacLaine, Jessica Biel and George Lopez.

*Sigh* I guess a movie about the single women who aren't close to slitting their wrists every Valentine's Day is too much to… Continue

SEX AND THE CITY 2?!?!?!?!?!?!

So some of us had the freaking terrible option of seeing the first Sex in The City movie, but now THE HORROR CONTINUES! That's right my fellow Spillios, The Sex and the City movie will be returning with a sequel. Now the characters will be reprising the roles with actors Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Catrall, Cynthia Nixon, Kristen Davis and Chris Noth. Thankfully the movie wont be hitting theaters until May of 2010. From some set pictures that have been released during filming we see things such… Continue

Santos Reviews: "Secret Invasion" #s1-8

This review contains spoilers, so if you haven't read "Secret Invasion" yet and don't like stories getting ruined for you, do yourself a favor and don't read this.

I'm not sure how clear I made this in my "Powers" review, but I recently got into reading single issue comics instead of just graphic novels/trades (if you want to know why, ask in the comments… Continue

Awake review: nothing special, still worth to see

At first didn't know what to expect from this movie but after watching it, it was a nice surprise. Its a very well made thriller with unexpected twists, full of suspense, mystery action and adventure, the only thing that fail for me was the ending, I expected a little more from it. The story about a man (Christensen) undergoing heart surgery while experiencing a phenomenon called "anesthetic awareness," which leaves him awake but paralyzed throughout the operation is original and interesting.… Continue

Human Torch: "No More Fantastic Four Sequels"

It doesn't matter what YOU thought of the two Fantastic Four movies (especially that second one-ugh!), they still racked up $300 million in domestic box office. You'd think it'd be a given that there'll be more to come. Well, according to Chris "the Human Torch" Evans, that's not the case.

“I’m pretty sure we won’t do [another] one. I’m assuming that one is a closed book.”

It's not even because the actors… Continue
