Memento Review

Movie: Memento (2001)

Okay I'm just gonna come out and say it. Memento is over-rated. I can't help but feel as though people who say "you have to watch it a second time" say that to make themselves feel smart. There was nothing that confusing about the movie. And what person who didn't like it the first time around would subject themselves to sitting through it again?

Anyway, the actress who played Trinity in The… Continue

Adaptation Review

Review may contain spoilers**

Movie: Adaptation (2002)

I suppose making movies about making movies is a cliche as old as...well, as old as making movies. You know what though, that is the beauty of Adaptation. The movie laughs at itself. How ironic that the main character strives so hard to make a movie about real life, without utilizing Hollywood cliches, only to find himself in a situation that is more like a movie than the… Continue

Old Boy Review

Movie: Oldboy (2005)

"Very good but very f*cked up."

That's what everyone told me, and everyone was right.

Think: Star Wars meets Eternal Sunshine meets Kill Bill meets greek tragedy and you're half way to "Old Boy."

Old boy is a new twist on the classic revenge story. In contrast to all the Japanese movies I've been watching lately, I felt the Korean, Old Boy, was a very clean cut way to present a complex plot. For something so complex, the mysteries of… Continue

Modern Classic Movie Review #1: Nightmare on Elm Street

When horror films were at it's height during the eighties, Wes Craven submited the script to numerous film companies, but got rejected for different reasons. Walt Disney company approached Craven at first, although they requested him to tone it down for younger and family based audiences. He turned the idea down and kept searching. Then New Line Cinema decided to help him out and he accepted. In the midst of filming, New Line was suffering… Continue

My Take on Twizzlers, Or How I Didn't Buy Into the Hype and Took a Piss on Twilight...

In the lead-up to this movie's release, I often wondered what the big deal was all about. Now that I've seen the movie (and looked into the source material), I'm still not clear on what makes this poorly written schlock so appealing. I mean, I know that teenage girls often go for older guys, but to even think that a 108 yr. old has never truly been in love before you came along would make you one of the most egotistical idiots on the face of the planet.

I won't bother going into how… Continue

First Episode Of 'The Penguins Of Madagascar' Revealed

Debuting on Nickelodeon last night, here's both parts of the sneak preview episode of 'The Penguins Of Madagascar' which will premiere in 2009.

While the main characters Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman are still relaxing in Africa (after the events of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa), the four penguins: Skipper (the leader of the group), Kowalski (the smartest of the group), Private (the youngest) and Rico (the craziest), have returned to New York City in Central Park Zoo. The Penguins… Continue

My first lunatic!

Wow.

Fucking Wow.

I've been in Toronto for a year, and this is the first genuinely crazy person I've encountered. And I mean head to toe crazy.

A man just came into the shop asking about non-permanent tattoos. He was dressed in geometric patterned sweatpants, a purple sweatshirt, various gauzy, india inspired scarfs from the cheap-shops, sunglasses (it's dark out), and a bucketful of big tacky watches, bracelets, rings, and necklaces. His long hair was… Continue

Professor Cyrus’s Film School: The Paramount Centennial Collection

Paramount is clearing out the vaults before everything goes hi-def (in one way or another) and they’re not doing it on the cheap. Their new “Centennial Collection” are reissues of their best and brightest classic films, although inexplicably with a heavy focus on Audrey Hepburn’s films. All but one of these films marked for release features the lithesome goddess in a lead role. The major selling point is the extras package… Continue

30 Days of Night:Dust to Dust The Movie Review

I liked this one a teensy bit more then the 1st one,and there's 3 reasons. One there's more deaths,2 the deaths are more gruesome, and 3 more is revealed. I thought the story was a tad boring though, because like nothing big happened. I thought the death of the girl who took care of the male cop's sister was pretty gruesome, the whole biting into the back of the neck and biting off the flesh looked like it would hurt...A LOT!

Trust me when I… Continue

30 Days of Night:Blood Trails The Movie Review

This was an awesome prequel of 30 Days of Night. It had awesome characters like the main guy who's life seems really really bad. It has awesome bloody deaths and I like how each vampire is deadlier then the next. I thought the acting was a tad bad,but other then that the whole 6 parts merged into one movie was pretty entertaining. It was sad that the main character's girlfriend turns into a vampire and he has to kill her though.

All and all… Continue

Top 5 DVD Special Feature Documentaries

We are super lucky to live in an age where we have DVDs with special features that are actually cool. Granted, there are some DVDs where we have too little special features (interactive menus) or too much (Lord of the Rings and the 12 discs of crap you'll never get through without falling asleep). But there are times when we get some REAL good featurettes that play like full-length documentaries. That being said, here are what I consider the best documentaries which should not be overlooked as… Continue

Hugh Jackman to quit being Wolverine?...

Source: http://www.imdb.com/news/ni0616277/

It appears that Australian actor Hugh Jackman has stated that if the X-men Origins: Wolverine movie doesn't match the success of the original X-men trilogy, he will retire the character.

"I'm not going to flog something - or flog a dead horse, or try and make movies that people don't really want to go and see. I have no interest in that. Even no matter how much I love the character. So there are many… Continue

Gears of War 2 review...

Hey kids! Do you remember a time when 2/3 of all video games in the market weren't about killing aliens or steroid-addled space marines? Me neither.

Apparently the Locust Horde from the first Gears of War game didn't get the message to die and have resurfaced again. It's time for Marcus Fenix and his merry band of two-dimensional characters (in personality, not graphics) to venture into the depths of the Locusts' home to find a way to end them once and for all.…

Vampires don't walk around in the twilight, amirite?

I'm a bit late on the subject, I suppose. I'm quite possibly redundant as well because I don't read too many of the comments, either. Oh well, I don't mind- I just felt like this is something I had to throw in my own two cents about. If you don't know what I'm talking about just go check this week's ACOCO and Let's Do This! Simply put, Carlyle thinks a big problem with Twilight is its portrayal of Vampires and how Stephenie Meyer manipulated the vampire lore to her own liking and this is what… Continue
