BERSERK

If you have not already heard of BERSERK you may have been living under a rock…but in all honesty even thought it is highly regarded as one of the best war action drama anime’s ever made it is still somewot overlooked by the masses.

On this episode Katface and I discuss the franchise’s many release’s which include the still ongoing Manga, The older Anime TV series, The new animated movie releases and we even talk about some of the Video Game adaptations.

Berserk much like Cowboy Bebop is a must watch anime that has proven to be a massive hit with non-anime fans….if you have not seen it already you really should check it out…..and I mean right now DAMMIT!

Mann

It’s such a serious title….so much action…drama…blood and violence

If only there was some way I could make light of this dark twisted tale

5 minutes later……(it’s a lil bit spoilerish but I gotta do it)

HA! A new DREAMcast, at last!!! Also, I need to get that song. Depressing it may sounds but I'd listen to that.

:0P

Berserk the anime

vs

Berserk The manga

What a coincidence, I actually watched Berserk for the first time a few weeks ago and re-read Claymore just this week...creepy.

I won't comment on Beserk, since I haven't read the manga yet, but I will say that Claymore is one of my all time favourites and I would like to hear your thoughts on the manga (Old Boy) and anime (Donwun).

Also is it common for anime to get cancelled after one season, even though the interest and source material is there?

Claymore..yeah

In regards to the anime I thought It was quite a solid show UNTIL the lat quarter where it feels like they rushed the story to have what I feel was a flimsy climax…I mean they set up quite a lot of plot near the end and you could tell they could not wrap that story up in one season so I don’t know why they needed to have a climactic battle that did not really resolve anything.

As usual I have heard the anime departs from the manga’s story especially near the end…however I feel the way the series ended just put me off wanting to see anymore…to be honest.

I still think it’s a good action anime with a good emphasis on female camaraderie…it just faulters at the end like so many titles

I have finished Claymore. It's pretty okay. Can't quite give it a Solid B, but it's got plenty of action for people who want to see people fighting with really big swords. I've seen a little of the anime, it's got great animation and artwork but I haven't seen enough of it I feel to really give a rating to.

If you liked Claymore, you may like Berserk. Comparing the two, Berserk is a lot stronger when talking about the story, the emotional investments you end up pouring into the characters and (particularly for the anime) the action is a lot more interesting to me because it's about the main character pushing the limits of a human being for a long, long time. With Claymore all the broads got these chi (youki) related abilities and stuff whereas Guts is just one man attempting to defy his inevitable fate. Claymore has that intrigue you already know but Berserk is pretty much more straight forward with it's plot.

Oh I also forgot to get around to it in the recording, but in Berserk the military "genius" Griffith has one infallible war strategy: send some guys around the back. No bullshit, every big battle Griffith leads an army in he has this is his tactic he employs. I actually never noticed that myself until someone commented on that and the next time running through the story I noticed it was actually a correct assessment. I don't bring that up as a deterrent to people because even though the plot revolves around Griffith's military career, it's hardly about complex and intriguing military strategies. Also Guts's foil in Berserk is Corkus, the former leader of a band of thieves Griffith defeats before the story begins. Despite being such an ass don't forget that he is actually one of the original members of The Band of The Hawk when you watch/read this story.

‘rolls a yarn of angora wool to OB’
Berserk is definitely Hall of Fame. The ending did scar and shock me as it was so left field it took me 2 years to be able to speak about it.
Furthermore that end song adds up the ending of Berserk….WHY OH WHY……. more counseling for me then sigh.
Claymore to me was flat. I felt no connection to the characters except for Teresa who had depth, character and purpose. I don’t think it can be held up in the same esteem as Berserk I would give it a high watchable.
If you guys really wanna see the box I will post pictures but it’s a major spoiler.

I wonder if Funimation will dub the Berserk movies.

Funimation is likely but i would think they would also try to get the rights of the older series as well...if they can

I think they will do that since I heard that Viz Media will no longer make English dubs for anime.

The PS2 Berserk video game (and the full opening of the anime!)

Berserk's Millenium Falcon PS2 video of gameplay

Watched the 1st Berserk movie the other day, which was well animated and looks great espically when Guts starts chopping people up. The blood squirting out looked good.

The manga is awesome and appeallingly dark.

The Claymore anime like Donwun said had an original ending cause by the time the anime got to the " war in the north arc " the manga was about 10 chapters ahead and was slowly coming to a conclusion of that arc. Still love them both though.

Donwun you must be happy the movie is out!!!!

Though that being said I would have prefered that they continue after the Golden Age..which was the anime series. Do the Dark Age...damn it!!!!!!
