NY B&V #32: Sat/Sun July 28/29th Dark Knight Rises IMAX in Atlantic City (UPDATED 7/13)

It's all about the goddam Batman!

The Dark Knight Rises has the chance to become the definitive trilogy for any super hero film franchise as it should be. Arguably the greatest super hero ever developed, no one can argue Batman is iconic. So many interpretations and yet, he's still compelling. Already you can see all the great parallels with Batman Begins:

1. Falconi said "Who are you?" in Begins. In DK Rises, Bruce says "What are you?"

2. Airplane heist in DK Rises is a more stylish than Sky Hook in the DK.

3. Selina Kyle's pearls identical to the jewelry his father gave his mom on that fateful night

4. Young Bruce falls down a well shaft to develop his fear of bats. In Rises, he climbs up an enormous prison drop shaft modeled after a giant well.

To me, THAT is what Batman is all about in Nolan's vision: Bruce continues to answer his father's "Why do we fall?" and pick himself up, and climb out.

On our 43rd meet up and 4th anniversary, Something never tried before?
July is special because technically it's the anniversary of G-man creating this group that we rent from. A LOT has changed over the years, it's scary/exciting that we are going to begin our 4th year. Every year, the group has grown. Every year, we've tried new things. Constantly pushing the limits and boundaries through friendship AND trust in one another. I don't think any group on spill has ever tried an out of state trip AND sleep over on their own.

Organization is the key to any successful group. Now, we are challenged to raise our game even HIGHER.

On Tap for discussion

NYCC: Last year, NYCC 4-day party was a MONSTER BALL. I mean, we never had more girls in the group (that's always a good thing). Amanda visited us from Iowa. Amelie Poulain (Marusja) visited us from Berlin, Germany. We met Sanskrit and his girlfriend. It was the second largest turn out...and it almost broke the group with exhaustion.

Do we want to keep it 4 days, 3 days, two days, or all on ONE day?

I'm still a little unsettled during our largest outing ever, when the Five Boroughs came together and formed a fist for the Double Movie Feature in January at the BK Winery served by Pattie and John's EXCELLENT hospitality...where we had a room with a capacity up to FIFTY for FREE.

We were so engrossed with having a great time...no one took a pic. I feel I want another crack at that....just ONE lasting memory that this is what people can do when they put their minds to it. I had that itch back during Mad Men finale, so I appeared in person and talked to John. Still not sure if I can pull this off...again. But deep down, I WANT it.

Calender Year: Similar to our Christmas party, looking over ideas, travel, networking, projects, movie meet ups, etc.

Why so early? Duh, all of you have your own friends, certainly don't need help finding a place to party in NYC...need a good reason right? So let's make it count.

The VOTE: Those who get my off spill e-mails, know what this is about.

The Components

Drivers: Fizzlesticks (Eric), Lorne, Woody89 (Sean), and LordofBklyn (Chris) We have two cars available. We could also rent a big van like we did for Six Flags. Depends entirely on # of people coming.

Hotels: Need every one to tell me what their budget is so we can slice this up. Sooner, the better. I would suggest telling me via FB or off spill e-mail when it comes to coin. Be HONEST.

Dark Knight Rises tickets at the IMAX Tropicana. Committing to something we can't just walk up and buy (likely)...

Itinerary

0900-1100 The kobayashi maru sets sail for the Promised land. Meet in Hoboken, NJ near the PATH on 4th and Clinton in front of the parking structure near the hospital.

Captain boozehound Woody89 will be our captain. Assemble: Detfink, G-man, Mr. Burn Notice, Michael 5188, Rider Kabuto, Original Richard.

1400-1600 Firefly class, Serenity will set sail to the Boardwalk Empire. She'll be picking up after those who work Saturday morning. I like fresh, well rested drivers especially after reading the statistics of accidents in "Joisey." Captain Frizzlestick will handle the wheel. Assemble: Lorne and Elaine Jaffe, Rachel Kolb.

Buffet outside of Caesars is closed for renovations. Waterfront at Harrahs and Borgata are the best but on the other side. We'll work that out in the days to come.

Rendezvous spot, we'll come to Lorne and group 2 when they arrive.
