I am probably going to get beat up for this but ..... I believe Misa Amane should have taken Light's place and continue his crusade by getting revenge on all of Light's enemies . Have her hide in the U.S.A and cause a second dark age and force Near to track her down in north america as well as potential Kira imitators.

there is however a Huge (dissapointing ) rumor that poor Misa commits suicide , but I'm sure is just a rumor to satisfy some fans who disliked Misa.

No, Misa actually did kill herself. According to Death Note 13, her profile shows that her deathday was on Valentine's day, in 2011. I, being a Misa-hater myself, don't really mind OwO

I definitely think there should be an alternate ending where he wins. I was rooting for him the entire time and then he makes a stupid mistake in the end and underestimates Near. Why light, why? you were so close ;(

Well, I think Mikami should take all the blame. He made the hugest mistake of all, and if he hadn't written Takada's name in the notebook, Light most likely would've won, and maybe the series could've continued :c

thats true but light should have counted on him making a mistake, just as he assumed misa would make mistakes. he had gotten so far without any help and then when he does he ends up relying on that help too much.

i agree but is not all Light´s mistake mikami don´t obey the orders he get and that was the problem also at the end Light not only figth vs near he goes also vs mello

At the beginning I would've not wanted him to die. But, he was transforming a very "scary" guy. He wasn't the same Light from the when he got the DEATH NOTE.
So, i think it was best for that to happen
