If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Atom Egoyan's "The Sweet Hereafter" is regarded as the most well known, and in my opinion, the best Canadian film out there.
There are also a ton of great documentaries, such as "Last Train Home" and "Up the Yangtze". They're both very Chinese-centric, but hey, so am I.
For non-English Canadian films, Quebec is where it's at. "Incendies" and "Monsieur Lazhar" were nominated for best foreign picture.
I also enjoyed "The Trotsky", with Jay Baruchel.
Has anyone seen Goon yet? I've heard good things about it.
Yeah I saw it, and LOVED it! Full of violence (just like real hockey!) a little on the dorky side. I thought Stifler was great! (Sorry he will always be Stifler to me no matter what else he does). Maybe I loved it so much because I'm a Newfoundlander and one of teams featured was the St John's Shamrocks, but nawww I don't think so! It'll win no Oscars but it sure was fun! If you don't mind blood... and teeth... and broken bones... :D
Saw an awesome movie the other night, Repeaters. Follows a group of 3 addicts in a rehab center who are doomed to repeat the same day. Their task on this particular day is to go to the people they have harmed most by their addictions and seek redemption. Doesn't go well for either of them, and when they wake up the next morning its the same day, and they try again. Of course along the way they have a "litttle fun" with the fact that they can do whatever they want and the next day everything will be erased. It turns dark and then bloody messy. I really enjoyed this film. Didn't recognize any of the actors, but I thought the performances were solid. 8/10
