BET found out that the shows were being made and threatened litigation against Aaron McGruder.
The characters that are portrayed by BET are based off of real people.
Weggie Rudlin is based off of the former producer of the Boondocks who is the now President of BET Reggie Hudlin.
Aaron McGruder and Reginald Hudlin created a Boondocks pilot for the Fox Network, but found great difficulty in making the series acceptable for network television. Hudlin left the project after the Fox deal fell through, although McGruder and Sony Television are contractually bound to continue to credit him as an executive producer. -
