If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Ok, let me start off by saying The Dark Knight series is OVER! I loved it, but TDKR was a true ending to the trilogy. Nolan's Batman universe wouldn't even WORK in a Justice League movie! That series is done, there is going to be a reboot and we are going to see someone else dawn the cape and cowl within the next few years (as great as they are, no Christian Bale or Joseph Gordon-Levitt. They're getting someone new).
Now, that we've got THAT out of the way, let's think: Who would be a good Batman? These are a few actors I thought of that might work...
-Jim Caviezel. He portrayed Edmond Dante's in "The Count of Monte Cristo", Jesus Christ in "The Passion of The Christ", and is currently playing John Reese in the TV show "Person of Interest". I think he's a great actor and definitely has the "look" for Bruce Wayne. And his character John Reese is very "Batman-ish" (detective, fights crime, gadgets". The only downside with him is that he's 44, and they're probably looking for someone young that can play Batman for several years. The again, Robert Downey Jr. is 48, and he's had no problem playing Iron Man for several movies (and more movies to come).
-Benedict Cumberbatch, best known for playing Sherlock Holmes in the TV series "Sherlock", John Harrison in "Star Trek into Darkness" and soon to be voice of the dragon Smaug, in "The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug". For a younger actor, I think this guy would be great. Ok, he doesn't quite have the look (but neither did Michael Keaton, who many consider one of the BEST portrayals of Batman). Cumberbatch already plays Holmes (an inspiration for the Batman character) and has a REALLY menacing voice, making me confident that he could play a more intimidating Batman (putting to rest issues with throat infection Christian Bale).
-Karl Urban, portrayed Eomer in "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy". Ok, I know he's busy playing Bones in the new Star Trek series and Judge Dredd, but come on, this guy is PERFECT! The look, the talent, even kind of the voice. He is my number one choice to be the next Bruce Wayne/Batman, but due to the reality of all the roles he's tackling right now, not sure if this would be possible.
Well, that's my list. What do you guys think, and who do YOU think should be the next Bruce Wayne/Batman? Any where from Ryan Gosling (I know that would make Korey happy, hehe) to Idris Elba. Pretty much any actor you think is great that you'd love to see as Batman. Feel free to comment below and let me know what you think :)
Ryan Gosling could be a great Bruce Wayne/Batman.
I really like your suggestion of Benedict Cumberbatch, despite having a different look than traditional Bruce Wayne.
I doubt Gosling would ever want to be in a Batman movie though.
Yeah. Just his roles in Sherlock and Into Darkness proves he has most of the acting traits someone needs to be Batman.
I can just imagine how badass it would be if Batman had something similar to that imposing "Khan" voice for the reboot.
Will Arnett is the next Batman to appear in film
Hehe, good point.
I think Aquaman should play Batman.
If I had a full bladder, I would have lost it with that one, Octo.
I'd honestly like to see them take a decade long break, because Nolan's Batman series was the best stuff DC could ever dream up in their wildest imagination. Having said that, Hollywood will think differently, like you said. But I'm hoping DC will hold off the blood-sucking producers for 5-6 years because the franchise was so iconic (they're saying they're going to delay it until at least 2017 right now).
In a decade or so though, most of those actors will be wayy to old obviously, so I'm thinkin' young actors who should have nice long careers. Here are several:
1) Nicholas Hoult- Warm Bodies was an extremely underrated movie and one that showcased his Batman-esque good looks, acting chops, and comedic style. He'd be a fresh young face, he's 23 now, who would be about 30 when the series would start.
2) Ryan Gosling- He'd be pretty old (39) if I stick to my timeline, but he's the obvious choice. He can act his ass off obviously but he'd provide the serious element needed in a Batman franchise. I think he's too high profile though and might want something less prestigous.
3) Penn Badgley- This guy went from being on Gossip Girl to playing Jeff Buckley and killin' it. He's 26 right now and would be 33 when the series starts if my timeline proves correct. He's got the whole package: acting, singing, and dancing (idk why'd he have to do the last two) but the point is he's adaptable to every role he takes.
A decade is a bit long (especially with some of the actors in my list). I think five years (well, four since it's already been a year since TDKR) would be a bit better and more realistic, especially with them starting a JLA series with Man of Steel. But yeah, they should take a little break before we have more Batman movies.
Good list btw. I could see Nicholas Hoult as a better Nightwing though.
I also like Bale's Batman voice. It's just something a LOT of people have an issue with (which Is why I addressed it here).
Christian Bale is by far my favorite Batman, but you know what, we have THREE movies with him. More than Keaton Kilmer and Clooney (thank god). With how TDKR ended, I'm fine, and ready to see someone new as the character.
