Monkeyiron posted a statusI got a PS Vita on launch here in Australia $420 AUD for the 3G Model & $65 AUD for 16GB Memory Card (~520 USD as time of post the 1 AUS was buying 107.9 US Cents). The 3G model is not locked in Australia but does come with a prepaid contractless Vodafone Sim with one month of Data Usage and Wipeout 2048 on first recharge. The games are $60+ AUS at retail but for some rest cost more via PSN, ie Uncharted $59.95 AUD RRP (I was informed that the RRP was 59.95 not 69.95 from sales clerk I know but most places are selling it above) but $62.95 AUD from PSN. Also the Vita is only being stocked by 5 national retailers with the "big three" Big W, Kmart & Target staying out limiting the competition.
Well I like the screen with all its OLED greatness, the games are pretty good, specially for launch titles (the Unit 13 demo is really good) but I am having problems.
First I think the system needs a redesign: I want PS3 size joysticks and buttons with their placement more natural, I am getting RSI-ish issues using the system for around 20 minutes. The PS Vita is bad to hold and so was the PSP but at least the buttons were a good size and didn't feel cheap, small (about 1/2 the size of a PS3 face button) and clicky similar to the ones on the PS Move Navigation Controller. I am a fan of the new D-Pad which is one solid cross instead of separate buttons like on the PS3 & PSP.
Though the biggest problem is in a mere 2 days from purchase I needed to load the device into "debug" mode (hold the power button for ~30 seconds) to force restart as the system would not load from sleep. Also if you place the Vita into sleep while having the browser or notifications open the system will wake into a black screen with the status bar at the top.
Also of great annoyance is that multi connector has been design only to work one way around, like most jacks but can be inserted backwards. This problem also extends (but I have not tested) to the Memory Card, Game Carts & Sim Card slots.
So is anyone having issues

Permalink Reply by George Knight on February 25, 2012 at 1:14am I got a chance for some hands on time with the Vita, and I totally agree about it needing a redesign. It's uncomfortable as fuck. Definitely waiting on a newer/cheaper for this one. (Not that there are currently any games I'm interested in anyway, besides Katamari.) My 3DS, which in retrospect I should have waited on too (Fuck that circle pad), will keep me occupied in the mean time.
Sucks to here about all the technical problems though. I hear somewhere that there were a ton of Japanese gamers having problems at launch, with an 80% failure/defect rate or something ridiculous. (Don't quote me on that though, I have no source atm)
Permalink Reply by The god damn Irishman on February 25, 2012 at 2:14am the 3DS had a horrible launch I never play the thing but tbh i'm thinking handheld gaming is dead with the android and istore market being so handy also agree that the 3DS is just a baby sitting tool lol but I love zelda so i got it but after i finished it i never looked at it other than the odd update but its noting special
I think the Vita is good but its not pocket device as such so i will just play my ps3 or xbox instead lol

..!.,,..?;..?.
Keep those handy. Don't worry about me, I've got plenty.
Permalink Reply by Gsolid on February 25, 2012 at 2:46am I agree that the 3DS launch was sucky, very sucky but I have one of those too and yes the iOS version of Street Fighter IV was .99c when I purchased it and the 3DS version was $80AUS. The 3DS version is high quality but its not 80 times better iOS.
Also I dont use Handhelds as portable system I play them while doing other things, like tv, movies (at home), music and podcasts
Permalink Reply by Gsolid on February 25, 2012 at 2:41am I got a 3DS too and think it could have bigger buttons, specially the shoulder ones but as it stands the circle pad is a much better feel then the tiny little joystick on the Vita.
Permalink Reply by The god damn Irishman on February 25, 2012 at 3:35am i loved the 3DS but its novelty wears of right n fast and i bought street fighter 4 for it was great but still rather play it on the xbox lol
Permalink Reply by George Knight on February 25, 2012 at 2:10pm Well, while I still think that you should wait on the version, I think the library is finally starting to pick up speed. There's a variety of good games available now, and more coming this year. Things like Resident Evil, Tales of the Abyss, Mario Kart, Cave Story, Kid Icarus, etc.

Permalink Reply by Jason Straub on February 25, 2012 at 2:14pm Right? If there is anything that we have learned from Apple, it's that you never by the first generation of any handheld or portable device. It's usually overpriced and buggy, and they end up releasing a second generation that is 10 times better within a year or so of the release of the original. As for the Vita, I'm interested, but most of the reviews I've read at launch say the issues with the thing are big enough that it's a better move to wait for the kinks to be worked out before slapping down full sized console money for a handheld. I'm adopting a wait and see attitude.
But what about that sweet, sweet Apple groupie ass?
Permalink Reply by Jason Straub on February 27, 2012 at 5:36pm Anyone who will spend double what the hardware in their computer is worth just to have an Apple logo on their laptop is not a person I want to be associated with. Not even an iPhone is innocent of that because Apple charges so much for them that carriers have to up the costs of their service plans in order to offer the device at a competitive rate.
