If it's crap ... We'll tell you
I wrote an article just like this a year ago. I won’t say for which movie, because when the movie is talked about. All hell breaks loose! So last year I talked about a movie and what Oscars it could be nominated for. Unfortunately the Academy decided to snub the film completely, which will probably happen to this film. Well I’m not here to talk about that, I’m here to talk about The Place Beyond the Pines.
The Place Beyond the Pines is one of the best films I’ve seen in the 2010’s, which goes from 2010-2019. The movie is masterful, with great performances by Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper, great editing, fantastic writing, and one of the best original scores I’ve heard in a while. This film needs to be recognizing by the Academy! I actually know somebody who is an Academy voter and will be sure to tell him to vote for this.
Now I’m not quite sure about who would be nominated for Best Actor in a leading role, because both Gosling and Cooper are on screen for just about the same amount of time. I’m actually going to say Cooper will be the lead role, because Gosling’s character dies at around the 50 minute mark with about an hour and a half to go. That’s when it introduces Cooper’s character, who will be around for the rest of the film. They both give terrific performances and both deserve a nomination. So my guess is Best Actor goes to Cooper, and Best Supporting Actor goes to Gosling. Eva Mendes could also get a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
The film should also be nominated for Best Director, Best Original Score, Best Original Screenplay, Editing, and of course Best Picture. But I fear this will not happen. This movie was released in March; most of the movies nominated for awards usually come out in between October and December. The only film that I can think that was nominated for any big awards last year, that came out in the first half of 2012 was Beast of the Southern Wild. Only time will tell if this movie will be in the running.
Let me know what you think down below.
It won't be nominated for anything, I'd wager.
Fruitvale Station, Blue Jasmine and Before Midnight might (as far as early year darlings go).
That's what I'm thinking.
