If it's crap ... We'll tell you
There's one for the General Movies section, so why not one about video games? The idea should be obvious: if you have an unpopular opinion involving video games, tell us about it here. Like a game everyone else hates? Dislike a game everyone loves? Actually think the Xbox One looks kinda cool? Tell us about it here.
I'll get the ball rollin'.
-I'm not that crazy about the first Mass Effect game.
- Metroid: Other M is a great game.
Agree on the Mass Effect games.
Ok, here's one (of many) of mine. I am not that big a fan of the Bioshock games, especially Infinite.
Born from a series that both emphasized many choices, and had logic behind how its system and environment worked with the story...the Bioshock games seem to only hint at choice and force you down a very limited path, with pushing for a very specific story. The System Shock games were hallmarks of how to blend FPS, RPG elements and drama into a cohesive whole. The Bioshock games...look very pretty, but don't make a lot of sense. Why can you collect powers freely available to all, but no one else has them? Why do cities have gun and ammo vending machines? What about stealth elements or AI? Why do they continuously railroad you down a path toward a goal, rather than let you explore and find it on your own? Seriously, what the blue fuck is up with the giant leather bondage bird?!? Why should I give two shits about an alcoholic and mass murderer that sold her daughter off to pay for a gambling debt, to a random stranger? Why tell me right off the bat that the person I am supposed to protect...doesn't actually need protection? Would have made more sense never to say it and let you the player try to protect her and reinforce that bond. Finally...why are the games so easy? Tons of ammo, weapons and gear everywhere...when the SS games made them limited and hard to find, forcing you to survive and plan...not just charge in guns blazing. And why the weird superpowers anyway?
Bioshock is a basic shooter with a pretty storyline. System Shock was a survival horror game with sci-fi elements. The one spawned and took its name from the other...but has none of what made the first great. It feels to me like a dumb-down re-boot of a great franchise made for the lowest common denominator.
I didn't say all Mass Effect games, I mean the first one (the one everyone seems to love). I enjoy two and even three, but one is just kinda 'eh' for me in gameplay.
Alright, sorry to lump your response in with the rest like that. Me, I didn't enjoy any of them that much. Just the mining mini-game of MS2 caused so much boredom, I fell asleep at my keyboard.
The current Final Fantasy series is not as bad as everyone says it is.
Most 10/10 games are overrated (Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us especially).
Uh, getting sick and tired of games that are rated "M" (For mature) or "AO" for adults only that seems to focus completely on the murder/drug/booze angle with language........ and yet, besides Witcher, can't think of the last game that actually had tits on screen.
Look, I'm NOT looking for a Hentai game.... I know where to find THOSE all over the net.
But I do want to have the ability to actually find more "adult content" in an industry that has been around for 40+ years or so. Seems to me that the whole industry is still stuck in that Puritan mindset that ALL nudity/sex is a bad thing that should be avoided at all costs, regardless of the fact that they will happily dump a dump-truck worth of blood and guts and drugs in a game.
(Again, keep in mind that I want this content ONLY in a game where it makes sense. GTA, Saint's Row, a lot of RPG's like Skyrim would make sense. Dumping it into CoD or Battlefield would not).
Other than that?
Never really liked Gears of War. Thought it was an overhyped FPS that involved incredibly stupid characters and character-designs, with enemies that were nothing but bullet-sponges. The whole "cover system" was always overblown as the "new thing in games" when taking cover has been around for at least 2 generations in FPS in one format or another.
I don't think Resident Evil 6 is that bad. It's not a horror game but It's a passable action game.
If the media and gamers alike think an oversaturated market filled with shooters makes the west so much better than Japan, then I'll stick to my shitty Japanese games, thank you.
How come? The japanese market is huuuuuge.
Are you kidding? They've been completely destroying western markets in quality.
That may be because the "Western" video game market is rather small compared to Asia.
I'm not a fan of Metroid for the Game Cube. Just found it....I dunno, boring I guess.
