Theredknite posted a statusThe two part film will now be expanded into a trilogy. According to several reports, "On Monday, 30 July 2012, Jackson confirmed plans to make a third film, turning his adaptation of The Hobbit into a trilogy". Also, in the words of Peter Jackson himself, "So, without further ado and on behalf of New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Wingnut Films, and the entire cast and crew of “The Hobbit” films, I’d like to announce that two films will become three. It has been an unexpected journey indeed, and in the words of Professor Tolkien himself, 'a tale that grew in the telling'".
What do you guys think of this. I personally don't understand how The Hobbit can be expanded into a trilogy. I just envision a very slow and stale film trilogy that takes a long time to get where it wants to be. There aren't many epic battles in the book at all. Moreover, The Lord of the Rings trilogy consisted of three books of pretty decent length. This is one small book. An easy read. What in the world is he going to do in three films?!?!?! One would have sufficed!
What are everyone's thoughts?
