#1: Yes, this belongs in TV Land because you are not discussing comics, you're discussing a show BASED on the comics. It's a TV series, therefor it belongs where were we talk TV.

#2: Teen Titans, easily. The Young Justice cartoon, with the SOLE exception of Aqualad, is a massive joke. Animation is decent, but the team itself is a joke. They can barely work together, require constant supervision, sent on COVERT OPS for gods sake (yes, send the LEAST experienced heroes for careful finesse missions instead of the experienced ones...idiots...) and after 2 seasons are STILL training and trying to work together.

  The Titans however formed their own team, take their own missions, and stand their own ground. They built their own HQ, gear and contacts. They learn and grow together as a team...even to the point of creating branches of said team and converting ex-villains. Yes the animation is a bit worse and the Fourth Wall breakage is a bit much...but by and far its the superior series in plot, themes, story and characters. Hells, THEY KILLED PEOPLE IN THE TITANS!

Ipso facto, fuck you Young Justice (sorry LEOG).

Teen Titans was infinitely better than Young Justice. Teen Titans was clever, imaginative, and fun. Young Justice is boring, characterless, generic and annoying.

There are things to like in both (Me, I liked Teen Titans a tad more because it was just a bit more fun) but one thing I felt both shows lacked is a subject that should be tackled but overlooked for reasons beyond me: teen pregnancy.

It's rampant, it's relevant, and that conflict can make for a great story. Gimme that; I want that. I don't care if it's through a power porkin' or some man juice on the toilet seat, just take it and make it interesting

Yet another reason why I believe they need to aim an animated series at adults outright, instead of as a secondary audience.

(That and a Lex Luthor: Man of Steel adaptation.)

I don't think you need an adult superhero show to have complex stories. I think you can still have a fun "kid's show" and still have arcs and stories that are very mature in tone. Whether it is done well or not, that is something else entire.

Disney Family has The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which fields several stories about teen sex and pregnacy...so why not a cartoon series?

I don't know if I want something towards that (I've never seen it but anything on Disney Family, I avoid like the plague) but I would want something progressively logical, if that makes sense, that leads up to something like that and addresses it. Especially in a show about young outcasts, who are bubbling crock pots of hormones at this stage in life, pretty much locked away with only themselves. Surely, there are some relations bound to happen; something beyond just some holding hands or some necking. It'd just add another layer of complexity on top of these typical 'great power, great responsibility' themes without going over and being too sappy and just trite.

These shows are fun (you are talking about costumed kids running around beating up bad guys) but it'd be icing on the cake, for me, if they carried an emotional punch like that and were able to carry it tastefully throughout an arc.

I've seen intelligent ways to approach the super teens in love idea in comics (Invincible, Runaways and oddly GEN 13 in the early days are good examples), but I think the BIG issue when it comes to television is the studios themselves.

In the US, the general public perception of cartoons is THEY ARE FOR KIDS ONLY! PERIOD! END OF FUCKING STORY! In the last 5 years, this has actually gotten worse...almost a backtrack from some of the excellent works of the 1990s. Shows which have superheroes AND toy lines attached to them have suffered the most..for proof, look at Superhero Squad and Batman:BATB. Hells, they want to cancel the recent Avengers cartoon and replace it with a more 'kid-friendly' version ala SHS.

I agree PPP that a teen hero series with more realistic and mature storylines WELL WRITTEN could be a lot of fun to watch...but right now I REALLY doubt such an idea would even see the light of day. If the show touched themes like STDs, teen pregnancy, abortion, drugs or anything beyond a kiss...even in light terms and well written...would get protests and threats BY THE SCORE unless they dealt with them as people OTHER than the main characters and only as concepts and not real acts.

 Hells, religious groups were protesting Bully...because it showed a young lesbian girl getting bullied...and the protest were she SHOULD be bullied. Now picture Rainmaker (female NA superhero lesbian from GEN 13) dealing with approaching other girls her age she is attached too...and not knowing how they will react...in a regular cartoon series on CN.
