If you haven't watched it, then I highly recommend it. This show really surprised me because at first I thought it was just some dumb show cashing in off of 300 success. But this show ended up having a great story, with fantastic characters that you will either love or love to hate. It's full of twist and turns, scheming and killing, and loving and gutting. But behind all the blood and sex, of which there is plenty of, is an exciting story based off of the historical figure Spartacus. The show gives off a sense of danger around every corner, where any character at any given moment can have a sword to the face or a knife through the throat, just makes this show a joy to watch.
I can't praise this show enough and after last nights finale I can safely say it's one of the most satisfying series I've had the privilege of watching.
Now all I have to do is wait another year for the series finale.

Just X. on April 2, 2012 at 4:49pm i think this show is a li'l heavy on the overly-melo-drama... but it has some very consistent and good writing, and isn't afraid to get gritty. this show actually paints a better picture of ancient Rome than most movies and history books, although it isn't very historically accurate. only thing that's done it better, in my opinion, was HBO's Rome, although that played fast and loose with the history in a more serious way. this series knows that it is spectacle.
i have been thrown off all season, though, because of the re-castings. the new Spartacus just doesn't have the "it" factor that the original did. and the new Neveya (sp?) i don't like as much either. also, the Roman soldiers look like bums, you'd never tell that for its time this was probably the most elite fighting force the world has ever seen.
definately a solid show, though, with good acting, fun effects, and more than a few surprises!
Permalink Reply by Al Cortez on April 2, 2012 at 10:24pm I agree, but I gotta say the over the top melodrama makes it so fun to watch, for me at least. I agree that the new Neveya was just hard to watch. She made me cringe with her overacting. As for Liam, he just didn't have as much range as Andy in showing his emotion. But I felt he was still a decent Spartacus, but no one can ever replace Andy in that role.
