If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Red vs Blue is the main source of popularity, but they are doing something good for spill, so give them credit for that.
Back when I had my Xbox 360 I would always go to their videos for finding out how to unlock the tough achievements. They all sounded like down to earth people who really love video games and making people laugh, so I stuck with them.
At the moment I don't listen to the podcasts, but I do watch their Let's Play channel on YouTube and those videos always have me laughing my ass off. I could seriously watch them play Minecraft all day.
You might not like their content (I don't either for the record) but they were nice enough to host Spill at their con. It's great exposure and the more the merrier imo.
Rooster Teeth does'nt suck. You might not like their stuff but they're really nice guys and they're helping Spill out. I think sometimes people on this site. Forget how small spill.com really is. The need all the help they can get. RTX is a huge event and they get a chance to branch out to people who have never heard of them. Overall this is a really big and important step for Spill.
I like their regular podcast so far; the Gavin or Google segment is pretty damn funny . I'm just glad Spill has a strong friend like Rooster Teeth, especially after the recent shake ups. I can't stand Halo, though, and that's my one hang up because they obviously owe a lot to the series and much of the content is based around it. But to give them credit on that end, I can't look at Halo as a serious series because the Rooster Teeth Videos are comedic and quite frankly written better than the actual games. Not a high hedge to clear, but they did it where the games couldn't I guess.
Best I can suggest is to listen to a few older ones maybe and see if you can figure where they're coming from. They're obviously no Spill, but like Spill they at least work together and build off one another's chemistry (I've seen too many wannabe 1 man shows that fail). The Gavin or Google thing is a good example of that. Thus far I like them better than a lot of shows on The Nerdist, but I don't know too many other sites with podcasting. I do appreciate that Rooster Teeth is similar to Spill in that they're both not obnoxious.
